260-270rc rpm!!!!
Just let you guys know what i have been up to, we hgave been testing and testing over the last several months with the rc type engines first the 230 then the 260 and now soon the 290. I told Carey to turn it up and see what the motor is capable of in the spark, check this out 16,000 rpm's smooth!!!. why is this important? this gives the motor approx 3400prm range for gearing from mild to wild if you want. I have run my marine engines over 19,000 rpm with reliability so that's not a concern. the 290 is next. Peace, Al

Al, Where does the max power come in on the RPM curve?

the power for this motor was max at 13800 but the curve drops off very gradual, so power above that was not drastic loss. I am working on a project for a heli that calls for a higher rpm ceiling, so i said to Carey turn up to 16k and let mee know how she feels. I will be persuing other specs suited for specific rpm but was pleased with the quick test. I am building a 29 rc nowthat i a pretty sure i can make rev with a wide power curve also. Peace, Al

The TRM 260RC is far and away the smoothest gas engine I've ever put the throttle stick to.
Nice work Al! -Chris Lund |

this particular engine did not get a chance to be dynoed as we were pressed for time but the motors torque seems to be peaking at around 12,600, which is not where I want it. I am testing a new spec right now which should bump the curve 1200 rpm higher but I am still working on even more improvements. Peace,Al

I saw that the VX270TT listed as "13,000-14,500rpm for best operation" (Esprit)
Would there be any problem if I governed/ran it all the time at 14500? At that speed how much headroom left for the governor to work? Thx.

I am running mine governed at 14,300 and it puls there all day, tank after tank. Cant imagine 200 more RPM will make much difference.
My VX270TT is smooth and powerful. I'm anxious to try a 29TT!

Hi guys, kinda need help down here..
I just finished broken in my 270TT on WhipGas, its runing smoothly at until 12k rpm, but not after. Heli start shaking above 12k. Did rebuild the clutch, head, and tail, seem everything is perfect - per manual. test flight again, but still. I finally removed the blades and rev the engine to check if the swash still okay at 12k above. I found few things:
Any help and suggestion is much appreciated |

Speeds
I have a Hanson G270 motor in mine and run it at 11k in normal mode (1600), 12k in idle up 1 (1750), and 13k in idle up 2 (1900) and it runs pretty smooth in all these speeds. I don't go much past the 13k mark though I probably could its not necessary for me. You can see mine running here:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TbGReq__MQ&feature=player_embedded[/ame] In your case you most likely need to lean out the needles to get the engine to smoothen out. I believe mine runs at somewhere around 1 1/8th on both needles with the 990. The 643 carb is a different breed, that one needs like 1 1/4 on low and 1 5/8 on high but in reality that is what the needles need to be at to yield the same fuel/air mixture with the 990 at more closed needles. Engine modifiers may still be recommending initial 643 carb settings but they are not the same for the 990. I told Hanson this so he can modify his directions that he sends out with the RC motors. -=>Raja.

Thanks guys, yeah mine runs very smooth at those range - bear in mind my current setting is for break in procedure, which I forget about it and start to forcing the engine runs at high rpm rich.
I am too greedy and want more HS Al, I PM you. So guys, sorry I am not really familiar with the character of different carb. Stock 270 comes with WT990? Correct? But WT64x series is more preferable for this engine? What are the different? Cheers! |
