Ok, I guess I'm questioning the value (and values) of the numbers you found and not really looking to nit pick for a recognized standard on what constitutes CFRP, which is very open to engineering by its composite nature.

You quoted that the 787 is 50% composite, and that the A380 is 25% composite and 22% CFRP. Isn't CFRP a composite? Is this saying that the A380 is 47% composite or that 22% of the composites (5.5% of the materials?) used in the A380 are CFRP? Sounds like somebody from public relations or marketing was involved in putting that messed up collection of numbers together - let's hope they aren't designing Pitot sensors... Anyway, whatever.

There is a very nice documentary on the development of the 777 (directed by Alan Mullally, current CEO of Ford Motor Co.) which lightly touches on some of the composite issues they faced, and has some great coverage of the incredible operational and destructive testing which the manufacturers are forced to perform. Worth looking for in everyone's public library.

Xspare,
IMO "composites" refers to epoxy impregnated woven or uni-fiber fiberglass, kevlar, boron, carbon fiber. Carbon fiber re-inforced plastic (or polymer) is not woven, it is just a matrix of radomly oriented carbon fibers (kind of like fiberglass matt).. If my interpretation is correct..

So that being said, i would think the numbers would be that the A380 is 47% composite material and CFRP

Back to the RC model, it looks like Banana Hobby will be carrying this in the US.

I am at the AMA Show, and they have one on display, and it looks like the same size (I didn't measure it) and it is 4 ducted fans.

EDIT-----------------------------------------------------------

I took a closer look and estimated the wingspan, I am pretty sure it is the same one. So a US supplier is in the works. Of course, some people have had issues with Banana Hobby.

I don't see an Airbus A380 model on that page. I do see a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, some parts, some foamies, and some scale military craft on page two.

Found it, but the image you show isn't on page two... it's on a click-through. The image on page two is in Singapore Airlines colors, nothing like the design you show, and nothing in the description says A380 either.

Sorry if you assumed the linked photo was on page 2, and what was I thinking that I would mix up an Airliner A388 with an Airbus A380?

Banana Hobby does have its issues.

But if it is in stock and the electronics work, you are fine. Or jsut figure if the electronis have problems, they are disposable.

Very similar to ordering from Hobby King/Hobby City.
