Yes.
The idle pulley ID is 2mm. The first time I used a long 1.4x14mm screw, and a 2mm tube that I found from some spare head parts. The tube was going throught one side of the tail box and just the scew was attached to the other side. Plus washers to center the Idle.

The second time I modified a 2.5x12mm screw that had a hex "integrated" on one side, so no need for a head, looks cleaner. I attached that to a dremel to make it rotate and filed it on one side to slightly more than 2mm dia so the bearing is firmly bound to the screw. For the rest I made a new thread of 2mm.

The first works fine, but the second is stronger and looks better because it's attached on both sides and there is less parts.

Anyways there are pics of both on that thread..

Is it possible to have a 17T tail pulley to avoid belt slipping ? Of course, to have the same tail rotation, need to redesign the tail drive gear so the ratio would be the same.

Hello !

If you put on alu pulley 72T, tail pulley with 17 T you will get more or less the same tail speed like original setup have ( I ges is 64T vs 16.......)

But i doo not have 17T in my repertuar....

Maybe somewhere in future............curenty too buy to ne development.......

But if you put 72T alu and 16T tail tuning puleys, the belt will get a grip and will not jump ower in no case.....ewen in the hardest flying style....

There is a big diference between original puleys and tuning pulleys in quality werry important is meshing..

Regards

With the HSC gears set the tail already come front a bit and I wonder how much bigger you can go without making the boom shorter...

I really recommend it for those that have higher head speed..
Now my belt tension is loose and everything works smoother that way...

Now I did it with only one screw, and one spacer: here is the pics...
That is much stronger than with the tube, since the screw is holding both sides.
Also the screw is wrenched without head to it really looks clean! Thanks Picofly for finding those from the buttom of his toolbox!

Hope that helps!
Where can I get the parts to do this?

Thanks!

i have the hsc gears, but want to do the idler too.. seems like a good idea..

but witht he gears i havent had one belt strip or break ever.. and I fly the bird really hard.

However the idler will be added bonus.

I see the pics and what not, but amd still uncertain as to how to do this correctly without messign up the tail box.

It's not that difficult to make the hole, just take your time. Then adjust well the angle of the shims to it match the inside of the tail case that is rounded!

I'm doing some mods over the weekend to my X2 as well.

Is adding the o-rings to the existing idler pulleys in front not enough, or do I have to do the idler in the tail too?

My understanding is that adding the o-rings to the idlers in front will stop the belt from inching down and getting chewed up by the pinion and/or main gear. What does adding an idler to the tail do? Is this done simply to stop the belt from slipping off the tail pulley? If I do the O-ring mod and dont experience any tail pulley slippage, then adding a idler to the tail should not be necessary. Am I correct? Also with HSC tuning pulleys I would think you shouldnt have to add the idler to the tail. The belt should grip just fine. No?

If I have to add the idler to the tail I'll do it, but if I can avoid it I'd rather not add it because I really hate drilling and dremeling already nicely machined parts. I'm afraid I'm going to F it up.

Sure if you have no problem of tail sliping, no need to fix it.
The idler on the tail allows better grip and less tension in the belt. My tail was having small blowouts, even on hover, an I could hear the belt sliping on the tail at those times. Excessive belt tension helped, but made the belts and bearings to wear out quick. Look other helis don't have big tensions on the belts..

At the time when I did the mod I was running FB and +-4400 rpm. Now with FBL HS is reduced significantly. Maybe head speed and overall efforts on the tail play a role too.

For the main gear idlers, I just put some old dampersrings from the head, they fit directly in there and no need to even dismont anything or glue anything. The point is just to push the belt little higher.
