Os105HZ hose breaking off muffler in flight
Hey Gang
I have a really dumb problem. I have the OS 105 HZ non regulated motor with the powerboats 105 pipe. I am getting 4-8 flights on it and I find the motor runs crazy lean I land and find the hose from the tank to the muffler rips right above the nipple on the muffler. I can't for the life of me figure out why it keeps breaking... I cut the hose clean put it back on and get another 4-8 flights and it breaks off again. Their is always the portion still stuck on the muffler but the rest is off. I looked around the area and nothing is cutting it off. Any ideas?

First, make sure you have plenty of bend relief...nice sweeping bends, no tight areas.
Second - make sure there aren't any burrs or sharp edges on the brass nipple. I've only had that line break maybe once in many many years of flying nitro....and that one instance the line was old and very heat checked. -Mike

+1 on checking for burrs on the brass. Also check the thickness of the tubing as maybe you're using clunk line tubing which is thinner and more flexible.

Heat.
The muffler is hot and the hose is deteriorating. Either the fuel line you are using for the pressure tap is not holding up to the "normal" temperature, or the muffler is too hot. |

Dubro medium fuel tubing or the Great Planes medium tubing works well for the muffler. I haven't had issues with it breaking.
Periodically, it is a good idea to snip off the hose where it attaches to the muffler and allow some "fresh" tubing to engage the barb. The heat from the exhaust will eventually harden up virtually any fuel line I've tried, and then they will be susceptible to cracking. But this shouldn't occur at the frequency you're reporting here. |

Thanks gang for all the ideas.... I got some new tubing yesterday and will check the nipple for any barbs if so file them down and make sure the tubing flows easily
