Yeah I like the look of both canopies but I'll be flying with the orange one for the first few flights and then later I'll see which one is better for visbility.

Right now the weather here is very unpredictable so hopefully it will behave tomorrow long enough for a few flights and I suspect most of the fiddling will be fine-tuning the Total-G. I did do a few short hovers in the back garden and it all seems fine so far.

Default Pic from today (Monday May 27th)

I got a few more flights today as we had some sunny weather for a change. A couple pics came out quite nice. I need to get some action shots as soon as I can get someone else behind the camera for a change.

I seem to be losing a lot of clarity in the upload process, there must be a script that is compressing the image or something :-(

What a great evening for flying... we flew until the sun went down! My Beam really is flying well. I've upped the head speed to 2300rpm, increased the cyclic gain, both of which gives me a bit more pop and control.

That looks really really good! I think I might put black skids on mine. I have some loom tape coming to tidy up the wiring so by the next time I get pics it should look better.

Default different skids

I have now fitted some black Trex 600 skids because to me the Outrage ones just didn't look quite right for some reason, maybe they were slanted too much. The nice thing about the Align skid struts is that they fit the original Beam skid tubes. So I shall stop fiddling with the skids now!

Hey trillian; from your latest pic (nice rig btw) it looks tail heavy to me, is it IRL or once you put blades on and held in the air its ok?

Just an observation...

Regards

It's just because there are no batteries in it. With a pair of 2600mah packs the balance is pretty much spot-on but when it's empty and no blades it wants to rest on the tail.

Trillian - see that you now have the Rail blades on, how do you like them on the Avantgarde.

I think they suit it very well, I really like them and more than likely they will be my permanent regular blades on the Beam.

On my very first flights I was using some Thundertiger 600s and it felt fine with those in calm conditions (I was also running a quite high headspeed on my first flights as I didn't know at the time what the headspeed was). The Rails are a bit heavier and feel more stable, especially if it's windy. I recently tried some TT 620s but the Rails were better. When I get a chance I'll see about trying some Edge FBL 600s as a few guys at the club use them. I kinda doubt they will be much different from the Rails.

Thanks! Yeah I lucked out with that one. It does have a crack in the paint on top but I covered that area with some orange vinyl sheet so it only shows right up close.

Hmmm, I've given up stressing about paint cracks. Most of the time they can't be seen unless*you're looking for them, and generally I'm the only one that does look for them! Lol

While looking at the pics i noticed your not flying with the rear horizontal stabilizer...is that for a particular reason? Do the Beams come with one as mine doesn't appear to have one either (mines bought used so i don't know if it had one originally). Does it make that much difference in flight on the Hirobo?

Cheers

Yeah the Beam doesn't come with a horizontal fin at all.

I think with flybarless it probably just isn't needed because the FBL controller will be constantly correcting the tracking in that axis. Where the fins do make a difference is on flybarred machines for F3C style flying where you want the tail to stay in a very straight line or track smoothly through a loop etc.

Now that it is assumed flybarless will be allowed by the FAI fairly soon I have seen some videos of FBL F3C machines being flown in Japan and one in particular in a video of Hiroki Ito where there was no horizontal fin so apparently he did not think it was helping anymore.

The Hirobo flies very nicely with the flybar so I won't convert it I'll leave it just as it is. Hirobo has a long history of making some of the top F3C machines over the years so their FB heads are really really good.

Aaahhh, of course, it all makes more sense now in that light. Hadn't considered the dynamics of the FBL, just the lateral forces of flight in general. Thanks for the info. now i know im not missing anything on my heli lol.

Cheers
