At angle more throttle will be required to maintain a constant altitude. You simply lose too much downward thrust when in a turn. Pull back a bit on the cyclic to try and keep the nose up as you turn. Any pilot will tell you that altitude is everything. Good luck. I am learning as well.

great advice you will find the harder and faster you bank the more power and cyclic is needed to keep from hitting the deck
think of the lift gennerated from the spinning blades as a cone with the top point at the bottom of the heli,in a hover you have pritty much full lift the the force is pointed straight down but as you start moving about, that lift is pointed the oppersite direction of travle and spread over a larger area requireing more power to keep level flight

good luck with the learning and post us some videos if you can
antony

This is where a sim pays dividends! With a sim, you can practice the stick movements and find out what input you need, without the cost and delay of a crash every time you experiment. Even a free sim will help with this!
