Are Eneloops sufficient as a buffer pack?

That is what the manual says.
I have the Scorpion backup guard on my Protos 500. not sure if this is sufficiant power in case of a failure. On the VStabi site it test different power setups.
http://www.vstabi.info/en/node/1390

Most people like the 800 mAh NIhM batteries with a switch as a buffer. Again on the VStabi site says it isn't safe ?

I am running all my Helis on 5.6 - 5.7 volt. I am building a Logo 500 SE right now. I would like to add a buffer on my Logo 600 SE as well.

Do I continue to use Scorpion backup guards or switch to 800 mAh NihM buffer packs with a switch ? What is safe ?

After looking at the tests done on you tube etc. the scorpion backup has enough power to land safely. That's all I want it for. 500 mAh, 2S lipo, 7.4 volt, output 5 volts.

If using a Jive, the only problem would be that it will not keep the Backup Guard charged as it is a 7.4v pack.

The scorpion backup guard is only one way. It has to be charged by itself. Scorpion now makes a charge cable for it. On my Protos it doesn't need to be charged very often. It puts out 5 volts so it only puts out power if it gets below 5 volts.

Scorpion Backup Guard Cons:
1. Needs to be charged
2. Does not help with voltage sags or feedback voltage from servos.
3. Really only for BEC failure.

Small buffer as Kontronik states or R2 Prototype Buffer Pack 25 or 50 farad !
DCup is only 1.25 farad.

This should create the parallel case the kontronik manual talks about. Also by doing this should keep the rx pack charged once the power is running from the jive bec. Switch will allow for electronic setup without needing the esc battery plugged in.

+1...

That's the way they try to explain it....

The current steering diode is in the slave channel....for precisely this purpose.

I also use a switch....for bench work convenience...accepting the fact that there is
a slight voltage drop through the switch.....as pictured.....works great.

I bought because recommended by dl7uae.

Uses Maxwell Ultra Capacitors 2.7v 25 or 50 farads, 3 each.
Normally sold in kit form but vendors may assemble.
Charge rate is adjustable from default 500 ma up to 700 ma.
Green light indicated full charge and takes a minute or so.
Up to 40 seconds servo operation.
Demon Aero in USA also sells but is version 2.

Version 3 is smaller board and has remote off switch option.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but a good alternative that several of us currently own is the Ultra Guard by Optipower. It is a well designed device, and the blinding light lets you know if there is power loss.

Tom,

I have not yet had a chance to use the IR2, but it also looks like a very good product.
