"Put up or ..." doesn't help the OP in his decision. If you like the speed I say go for it - its very similar to the normal version |

Well I started the thread just to see what's better to fly, comp or speed. But I'm in no rush, the 700 I have is still flying nice. I have to use a shoe horn to get some of my batteries in the frame but it works. Then I saw it, the Kyle Stacy 700 and that's the one I want. Good thing I waited, it's on the way

The Speed can be flown just like the Comp can be, and does not "have" to be setup as a speed machine. The canopy is much taller, so it allows for any motor you want to run without having to cut the canopy for clearance, but the canopy is more expensive if you crash, and electronics heat could be an issue in hot weather since its not vented. The larger canopy also gives it a bigger presence in the air and easy to see. My 160A ESC has a fan, and I added two NACA ducts into my canopy, and so far everything has been just fine even in the hot Summer months. The wider and more stable "safety" landing gear option for the Speed over the little fish fin type is also great if you plan to run it as a mixed type flyer and reducing drag to minimum is not concern. Its lands just as easily and stable as it did as a Comp version http://www.helidirect.com/helicopter...lin-speed.html I like mine a lot after the conversion from the Comp.

Xrated,
Thanks, that's great feedback. i'd not thought of converting my 630 Comp to a 700 speed. I'm thinking that it might be better value to look out for a 'nearly new' used 700 speed, I'm in no hurry.

You would need the taller 700 Comp frames as a base to start since only the original 630, 630C and original 700 frames are compatable with each other. The 700C, 770 and 770C are a larger size up and thats what the Speed is based on. Then you need the additional Speed front frame attachments and ESC relocation bracket. http://www.helidirect.com/helicopter...lin-speed.html Then add the 700 boom, Speed canopy, blades belt and optional wider skids if you want, and it starts to add up. You could in reality just swap the frames and canopy out and keep it a 630 Speed if you wished. The fact that I was already updated to the 700 Comp made it much easier for me since I only needed the Speed Conversion frame front add on kit and Canopy, but a good deal on an actual Speed kit and then selling your original 630 may work out better in the long run if you can find it.
