What I am suggesting is that if somebody should build the kit with just the parts supplied then I suggest placing the bearing biased to the tail as that will move it away from the center of the unsupported boom ( between the boom block and support clamp) so there is less chance of the boom flex harmonising with the torque tube!

For some reason my first build I had the bearing to the rear and had no aparent issues with it but when I rebuilt it after my first crash I set the bearing biased to the front because I was thinking about the COG.

It is possable that I am way off the mark but I am in the process of building another X50 so I will try it with the bearing to the rear for 5 flights and if all is fine I'll turn the torque tube around to see if it fails in short time! My last torque tube also only lasted two flights :-(

I'll take one for the team!
Al

The manual does have it offset about 3/4", more towards the front.

Well after having the problems I have been having I have found the reason for my tail vibration that I thought you guys might want to look into. My tail fin was vibrating like crazy and my fuel was foaming. I have found that the start shaft was bottoming out on the top of the crankshaft. I took the starter coupler off to see if there was any free play and I had none. After taking the motor out and removing the start shaft, I put the start shaft down through the clutch and there was a pretty good gap between the c-clip and the clutch/oneway. Looking at the bottom of the start shaft you could see that it had been rubbing on the crankshaft. I have built this per instructions and used the washer between the clutch bell and c-clip. I left the washer in be,ause I would rather have the bearing on the washer than the clip so I took a little off the start shaft so there would be some freeplay with the coupler off and then installed the ,oupler so there was no movement in the start shaft and reinstalled the motor. Hovered in the front yard and the tail fin is smoth and tail is alot better. Just thought I would pass along some info maybe to help somebody else out that may have a problem with vibration.

I am using the Redline 53 and I did try t remove the washer but all that did was allow the fan/cltch assembly to be lower but the crank was till the same height. I did not want to remove the washer between the clutch bell and shaft clip. So I removed a little material from the bottom of the start shaft.

How much did you shave off the starter shaft? What was the original length? Just curious. Quality control slip up on the shaft?

I took off a 1/16", did not measure anything because I did not have another to compare it to. So either the problem was that the start shaft was too long or the crank shaft is too long.. If I have to put another start shaft in later and I find that I have the same problem then I will shave a little off the end of the crank. I have spent too much time chasing this problem and have changed parts to find it, so for now I am just going to enjoy it because I am really happy with how it flies compared to the SE's. Lighter and quicker in the air.
