Default Tail servo, is this one OK?

My 520 decided to crap out on me today. This is the second one to go... never using Align servos voluntarily again.

I found a Hitec 5084 in my pile of odds and sods, will this keep me going? I'm flying a Protos500 stretched.
Or should I stay grounded until I can afford a new tail servo (what one? Maybe Futaba)

Cheers, B

If you tryin t save a buck a old futaba 9254 will do the job nicely. that's what I ran until I got my BK tail servo
You can find them in the for sale section fairly cheap.
That 5084 is ok on a 450. but I wouldn't trust it on my 500

My second hand protos has a HS5084 when i got it, but i had some bad experience of severe tail wag. Now i run a savox 1290 and my tail is rock solid.

Are these full size servos? Looking at the dimensions, they look bigger than the DS520 that was on there. I'm a little concerned that they wouldn't fit to the boom mounts (with hole distance of about 7mm).

the fut. mentioned above is full size and the BK is mini sized with a full size lid and servo motor. both fit well in stock location.. Most people that run mini servos on the tail all seem to replace it with full size and you hear about no more problems. let us know what you decide Bee

Interesting you say folk often use a full size servo. I was definitely swaying towards a Futaba BLS257, last time I tried a full size servo I found I couldn't get a mount for a 14mm boom that had the right hole spacing. This servo should be man enough??

I've never used it. But if its a Fut. full size tail servo it should more than suffice.
I've never had problem mounting a servo at all and I went from a 9257(mini sized) to a 9254 to the BK. alll on the same stock plastic mount,

Running savox 1257mg, no problems at all. For a mini servo works great. Or go for the Savox 1290, $for$ cant go wrong

Crick.. How do you fly, sport, light 3d, hard.. My 9257 worked fine until I started pitch rudder and cyclic at the same time.

I had an Align ds620 which was mediocre, then a ds650 (same as Savox 1290) which was good but not great, then a MKS ds760 which is awesome. All full size, IMO the Protos needs it.

big air, light 3d, As Flint said, the MKS ds760 is fantastic and also light for a full size.

Although I do not do Hardcore smack 3d, the tail is rock solid, high speed, rev flight into large backwards loops, rolls, flips not so much as a twitch. Granted I'm not doing funnels with it, but my heli is mechanically sound and tail is perfectly smooth.

Stock mounts arrived today, so I've fitted a Torq BL9188 (left over from a 700 I'm breaking for selling)... Test flight tomorrow
