Default Hitec 5245 gears

I was looking on Hitec website at the 5245 servo. I'm trying to understand why HS5245mg, HS82MG and HS225MG have differnet speeds but same gear part numbers #. 55301 #55302 #55014 http://www.hitecrcd.com/product_pict...talGearSet.jpg

HS225MG
Speed:0.14 / 0.11 sec @ 60 deg.Torque:54.15 / 66.65 oz.in (4.8v/6v)

HS82MGSpeed:0.12 / 0.10 sec @ 60 deg.
Torque:38.88 / 47.22 oz.in (4.8v/6v)

HS5245MG
Speed:.015 / 0.12 sec @ 60 deg
Torque:61.10 / 76.37 oz.in (4.8v/6v)

Yes i was looking for faster gears for the 5245mg . Never happy

Can anyone enlighten me on this .

They don't. AFAIK the 82 uses the 81 gears.

http://www.servocity.com/html/hitec_metal_gearsets.html

The 225 and 5245 use the same gears, so the motor is likely to be different. Plus the 5245 is digital and the 225 is analog.

Faster gears means less torque. If you want a fast high mini servo, look at the JR DS3517.

Terry - that is an awesome link! Now, the big question is, how can you tell if the 5254's have the new, improved case? I bet Servo City will know, I haven't called them yet. 5254's with the improved case for $48 seem the best servo for the 500 by far. The cases were the only issue, as I understand.

RYEM i have to agree with you best servo for 50.00 buck
I have the new 5245mg upgrade cases now and have not problem with them. But havn't crash tested them YET. I was guessing the motor is where the differnce is but if the gears are the same then the stronger motor inceases both speed & torque . 4.8 vs.6v shows that. The website show 3 servo all the same part #'s for the gears.
Yes i know the JR3517mg is the badboy now at $30 bucks more a servo.

How did you get the ones with the upgraded cases, or did you just buy the new cases? I don't know how you know the servos have new cases if you just order servos from someone. RChover lists the cases as being new, but of course they are sold out. I'd rather just buy some new 5254's with the new case design, if possible - but how do you tell???

I would call them. I have had great luck with calling them. I even called last minute and had them ship out gear sets taht day. They are my #1 source for servos and servo parts.

But take a look at the specs of the 3517s. I think these are the JR designed for the Trex 500 servos, based on the Z3650 car servos. I am running one as a throttle servo on my Vibe. FAST. Not cheap though, but they are JR.

I guess you were talking about Servo City. They look like a great source for everything servo. Called them today, but they didn't pick up. Could have been the Monday blitz. Helidirect didn't have any way to tell me if I'd be getting a servo with a new case. Of course you can always get lucky and crash without breaking the case anyway...

I spoke directly with Hitec. They said there is no way to tell the new ones from the old ones from the outside. They mentioned exactly what you did - have your shop order ones from Hitec and you will be getting the new ones. I took the approach of going to HeliDirect, which probably has sold a ton of these. Shops with highest turnover probably have the latest inventory. Also, if you break a case, might be worthwhile calling Hitec. They are aware of the issue and interested in taking care of their customers.

Tell me rchover is not the only place to sell the newer cases. I have been checking in on them almost nightly for the past few weeks and those cases have stayed out of stock the entire time. Surely some one else must sell these things. They're just servo cases.
