So how many wraps are required?

I used 5 winds for each wire.

I just A/B'd the stock ESC wires and the ones I built with 20 gauge wire

I'm now getting an additional 0.07V of BEC power reaching the Jeti receiver.

I may have to order some more 20 gauge cable!

I A/B tested them.

I used my new 20 gauge wires and noticed something looked different on the Jeti receiver telemetry, so I put the stock wires back on and looked at my telemetry receiver voltage value. Then I put the new wires back on and measured again.

It sips VERY little power.

FYI, I pushed my Protos 500 HARD yesterday and ran the battery down to 3.72V on one flight. I had ZERO power drop offs.

That Koby 90A will let me push that Protos all day long! I haven't done any grounding on the Protos ever, so at this point I'm thinking the MSH/YGE 60A ESC just wasn't powerful enough.

I also had my E5 screaming Land Now at me at the end of one flight and I was at 3.74 when I got it down.

Known issue with the Protos, if you push hard (especially in warm weather) it will thermal and shut down (though it should be telling you that it overheated)

All I can say is that some people consider the Protos 500 a very static prone heli.

I don't have any grounding straps on my Protos 500 and my Jeti Receiver is mounted on top of the Boom mount. I sprayed the belt with silicone before I installed it which may help a bit.

So far I've had no issues since I put the new Koby 90A ESC on it. I did leave the torroid ring in place, and I've got rings in place on all of my helis now.

All my heils are perfectly smooth in flight with no glitchiness of any kind.

ESD can cause issues with just about anything electronic.

I'm just uber critical/careful.

I got my Paladin crimpers yesterday, and the pins/wire/strippers/case/etc... came in today from Hansen. I ordered a bunch of colored plugs too... red, blue, and black plugs. This will be awesome for my aircraft & helis to keep track of what plugs into what

Just be careful the 20g wire is a TIGHT fit in those servo end connectors.

Got some practice in... made 8 x 6" color-coded leads for an airplane.

First couple were tough as you noted. I noticed that there was a slight bulge in the housings... started giving the crimp on the wire insulation a SLIGHT squeeze from top to bottom, and they went into the plugs pretty easy after that.

Amazing what a good die can do... I had no idea the crimps could be so perfect and strong. Replaced a 24 gauge plug on a servo... worked great! Got some more custom length leads to make for a plane, then I'll get the rings done up for the Diabolo. This is strangely satisfying.

Did you use rings larger than the Kontronik ones to fit the 20g wire? I found some JR leads big enough to fit a plug through!!!

The stock rings were fine. The silicone 20g wire I have is very flexible so wrapping was no problem.

The crimping tool I have has two crimping sizes, however even with the 20g wire I had to use the smaller of the crimping sizes so I could get the leads to fit into the ends.

Mine does too... I need to try that once. I'm able to get them in the ends if I pinch them a touch before I insert them.
