Hi,

thanks for your anwers.

Ok, over here everything is running at 230V. But I dont know nothing about the breaker...

I see your points with the 3kw version.

Will consinder the 1500W version then. thats more flexible, you`re right.

what about the 2400W version?

cheers,

cyril

Just adding some info, and hopefully clear some confusion: for those running 230VAC, as most of West-Europe does for example, the calculation is easy: a typical 16 Amp breaker will go up to 3680 VA, which translates to less Watts depending on the PFC, as said above. Remember these are breakers of the "slow" type, and won't break the circuit at 3680VA exactly right away, they need some overload or nominal load for extended periods of time before breaking.

Furthermore, many houses down here have one or two 25 Amp circuits, for example to connect electric cooking devices. These will provide up to 5750 VA.

I am planning on using two 2000 Watt output server PSU's for a next project, and using these slightly under their max capacity will make for less noise and heat, longer lifetime, etc...while making the most of my home circuitry. It's just a matter of how many chargers (Watts) you hook up to them. At let's say 3500VA to be on the safe side, and with a PFC of 90% (even more on newer server PSU's), you would be able to provide well over 3000 Watts continuously to such a system.

In the mean time, my 2 X 1300 Watt PSU's in series work fine, pics are here:

@redbird 300

So, would you think I could use the 3000W version?

what would you buy? the 1500, 2400 or 3000watt version of this psu?

the thing is, that the all are +-50Euro. So I tought it would be a good Idea to get the 3000w one. Although i dont really need it. But we could use it together at the field and I would have the option to run more than one PL8.

thanks,

cyirl

If they are all the same price, that's a no brainer: the 3000W of course. Even if you don't use it at its full extent, it will be easier on the PSU. And allow for more "room to grow". Forgive me not answering your PM, as it is exactly the same question and text as above that you sent me.

Hi,

thanks a lot for your answer.

Yes, just sent you the pm in case you`re not on HF anymore. So you would get an email about the pm. Just wanted a quick answer. thats why I sent you a pm on top.

ok, As I said. the 3000 one is only 50Euro more. So I will take that one.

A nobrainer just what I thought. (although I didnt take into account this discusion we re having here right now.)

If I understand it correctly, the PSU will only deliver what it is asked for. So if my charger is aasking e.g. 1000W, the PSU will only deliver 1000W and therefore not pull that many amps out of the wall.

I just checked my wall socket outlets. Everything rated for 10A at 250V. Except some parts in the kitchen. (thats 25A)

thanks.

Indeed.

another question:

in the manual of the RSP-3000-24 it says the output voltage is adjustable by hooking up an external DC source 1-6V.

http://www.meanwell.com/search/rsp-3...-3000-spec.pdf

How do I do that? will that remain on the unit? can I take it off again when adjusted? what kind of source would that be? Does this have to be done everytime i powerup the unit? or only once?

just figured out that with 24V output I wont get the last out of the PL8. I would need 26.35V....

thanks,

cyril

You would need an adjustable DC source that is on all the time that the PS is on. One solution would be to use one of these set to 6V and running from a small battery with a little switch between the battery and the device.

hi all,

i just received my new MW RSP 2400-24 PSU.

what a great PS!

I can adjust the output voltage via the potentiometer from 22-28V. So for the PL8 I set it to 27.5V.

Only if I wanted a lower output i would have to add the external DC....

cheers and thanks for everybodys advise and info.
