How rude of me. Thank you nightflyr and Kepler.

As for my addiction. After I joined HF last month, I've gotten a 250, a used Blade 400, and a 500. Don't know how I will keep from pulling the trigger and getting Flymentor.

Attn: Nightflyr or Kepler.

I need some help guys.

Can this KDS gyro be installed upside down?
This is how I had my 401. The manual dose not say yes or no.
I am going to put this first KDS system on my Trex450 SE V2 and the tail boom mount is only flat on the bottom side. Or should I mount it in the frame like Nightflyr did.

I would imagine that you could but be aware of how the correction direction will operate, being upside down I could see side to side movements being backwards....meaning as the heli tilts left the gyro will correct by moving left also, where it should be tilting in the opposite direction.
Another thing to consider is how it will effect inverted flight, being upside down to begin with going inverted is putting the gyro in a "normal" position

In that case you would have to see if you can tweak the software to get the movements correct.

Nightflyr thanks for the input. I did not look at it that way. THANK YOU.

I am just going to go to the main deck between the frames like you did Nightflyr. That way I hope to not creat a bigger mess of things. I moved the ESC to the outside of the frame to make room. When I get this all set up I will post pictures.

Maybe that is why my 401 gave me a hard time. Being up side down. Who knows. My life is ruled by Murpheys law.

FYI, the 401 does not care which orientation it is in, it just needs to know left and right tail swing
And unless you pack in hardware like I do in a heli, you should have plenty of room for your ESC inside, perhaps under the battery tray or maybe mount your ESC on the battery tray and load your battery on the bottom plate under the tray...

I think that is a wise decision. Although it might work upside down, sounds like you would be the guinea pig though. Gets very tight on a 450 setup especially if you are using a separate gyro.
You could also consider mounting the mentor senor just under the tail boom clamp but put the double sided tape on top of the sensor.

This is how I mounted the bits in a 450 size.

Hi Kepler,

You think it can get any tighter than this? lol

Now that is an idea too. Need to sit back and look it over. I just pulled the 401 gyro.

Very busy. Now all you need to do is install a camera setup. I will post up my 450 with a my FPV setup fitted. Now thats a tight squeeze too.

Have any one tried this on a nitro heli?
Have mounted one on a Hirobo Shuttle, tested it today.
In normal mode the heli worked fine and stable, but as soon as I activeted posistion mode it wobbeld extreamly.
The internal gyro on the tail worked realy fine, but not as good as 401.
Have to test some more, but others experince would be nice on nitor heli.

Hi Max

Generally there is no reason for this not to work on a nitro bird with the proviso that vibration isolation on the gyro is more critical than on electric for obvious reasons.

Try turning down the gain on POS mode see if it calms things.

I had the same issue on a smaller electric. I King II would you believe? So the vibration you are getting may not totally be due to the fact that you are running nitro.

I was able to lessen the vibrations by turning the gain on the internal gyro way low. But now, the heli slides left and back then does the toilet bowl effect. The TBE is around 20 feet diameter. One circle in around 5 seconds.

Hi, if you have a vibration problem, sandwitch a 3mm piece of foam between 2 gyro pads and use it to mount the gyro. It makes a big difference. The gyro will feel like it is sat on springs. Hope this helps Ivor

Ivor, my TBE report came before the "Flymentor and the Weather" in the other thread. But I will do this suggestion as well. Thanks again.

This solution worked like a charme, thanks for the tips, I diden't think about it.

Balance mode is now working, but posistion mode is not so good.
One of my problems was slightly bendt main shaft, and 2 bearings that I have to change.
I will do this before I put it back in my JetRanger body.

I was going to order a couple of these from HobbyCity. They are backordered. Does anyone have experience with the length of the backorder there? Checkout screen says 7-30 days. I can handle that for the price. Is that an accurate estimate?
