Default Does this motor have what it takes for the mx450??

This motor was made for the shogun and would strip the tail gears slap out
if you set it up using 100%. I hovered the mx450 outside today for the first time and was disappointed it barely had enough power to stay in the air.
The motor has a 10t gear . I was planning on changing the gear to 12t or 13t but after today I'm not sure it's even worth trying.
I'm using a Kokam 3-cell 11.1v 2000mAh 15c lipo, castle creations 35amp speed control . Here's a link to the motor http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/165370.asp

According to the numbers it should be OK.
Personally, I'd go up to 11 or 12T to get the headspeed up a little.

It should be fine. Is the motor hot or warm after a flight? Does the head speed seem low or high. The motor could be bogged down.

I had this motor on the Shogun 400 for about 50 or 60 flights and it always ran hot no matter what pitch or throttle curve I set. Guess thats why they built the heat sinks in on this motor. I put a 13t pinoin on it today it's very peppy but not having a tach i'm not sure what head speed im getting., pretty sure by the sound of the blades and that fact I was scared it was going to sling one of blades through my eyeball a 13t is to big. Should have listened to NY Rebel

A tach is a nice tool to have.
Different heli's have varied distinct sounds and resonance so it's hard to judge the RPM by sound.
Too high a head speed is not good and as you pointed out it can be dangerous.
There are several low cost pocket tachs that are accurate enough for our hobby.

Default Tach

I been putting off getting a tach for way to long. It's going to be
my next purchase. I have Hobby Town close to where I live and these guys match Tower's prices. I look at what Tower has and find something they both carry. Then go to Hobby town and buy it. I get a kick out watching the clerks at Hobby town pucker up when you say yes I'll take that and could you see if Tower sales that
