Well, she flies well on 500mm blades.. at least the 1.5 minutes I got to try it before the tail control rod link popped off the ball. My bad for thinking I could use the SAB ends on the trail control rod, I didn't think to check the tightness to see how easily they could pop off.. lesson learned.

Lost the blades (first and only flights on them, ouch) and front skids, maybe spindle, will pull it to make sure.

I'll either put the SAB 465's back on it to fly this weekend until I can get some replacement 500mm's, or just go all out and try the Align 520mm blades I have sitting in my X5 spares box, just for giggles. If an OS37 can swing 550's on a Raptor 30, surely it can swing 520's on an NX4?

I think I should just start calling this an NX5 now.

Video of carnage:

I started out with 2400 headspeed just to get a feel for it. When I kicked it up to IU2 for 2700 headspeed is when I lost the tail, so I didn't get a chance to really show the pop.

Finally did one full tank flight. The loctite didnt hold the rear set of landing gear, so I had to auto it down in tall grass. This time she was running Align 520mm blades (spares from my X5). My wife managed to capture a short video using my phone, see below.

Gaui NX4 stretched (4 min 8 sec)

Still a couple of tweaks I need to make. The carbon tail pushrod is sitting up against the bottom of the plastic clamp for the boom struts and causing some resonance. I need to dremel a bit, or find a different mount for the boom struts that gives me a bit more clearance.

This setup is extremely tail heavy, with no realistic way to balance out the weight at the front. I'm far from a 3D master, so it doesn't affect me too much at the moment, but I could see it being an issue if you wanted to some precision piro flips or something depending on the FBL unit. I also think the mini servo's were struggling a little bit running the 520's at 2700 headspeed.

That's what I've started calling it. I bet if Gaui made a true NX5 with like an OS55 swing 520's and got the power:weight close to what the X5 is today it would be a killer machine.

Lookin good, the weight ratio was rough but w/my x5 boom shortened 50mm and 470 blades the weight is quite good and the 37 seems to handle well.

As far as the boom support, I used the cnc 1 from x5 ( I think) It's lot thinner so no interference.

The 520's were just way too heavy at the headspeeds I was running for the mini servo's to keep up. I put the NX4 grips and the 465's back on today until I can get another set of 500's to run (will order Friday). Hopefully my next set of 500's will survive a few flights and I can get some video. A kind member here donated some of the brass sleeves I was looking for to bring the SAB 500mm blades down to a 3mm bolt hole. Looking forward to running those again.

In a most feeble attempt to move more weight afore the main shaft, I relocated my header tank to the forward bolt that holds the main tank in place. That, theoretically, puts the fuel weight of the header tank on the nose side of the main shaft. Still no noticeable difference in balance with the full X5 tail on it. Maybe I can "saddle pack" some batteries on the front sides of the frame? I may just have to live with the imbalance, because I really love the way she flies stretched.

I do not think that they would fit with the stock boom. I could be wrong. I do not have a stock boom to check the length.
