Glow wire...can you solder different colous together?
Just wondering if any one knows whether you can join say a pink wire directly to the end of a green el wire of the same brand and brightness... creating a continuous string of two different colours?
Did see why it wouldn't work so I tried it and it failed to light up, so I'm wondering whether I made a connection mistake or whether it just doesn't work at all. |

like this
Note..the cut in the heat shrink is there as I have started to remove the heat shrink to inspect the connections. |

Different colors run off of the same driver. And if I'm not mistaken all el wire is naturally green/blue, with colored insulation to achieve the different colors. I'll venture a guess that white has a powdered phosphorous coating inside too, like warm white LEDs sometimes have.
If you can make those tiny solder connections effectively, well my hats off to you. I once tried to reconnect the elwire to its wire leads with absolutely no luck. I won't say nay on this one, but good luck. You might email one of the techs at www.elwirepros.com for advice. They are good with that sort of thing. |

Just go to this sticky at the top of the page to find out what you did wrong.
Yes it can be done, Unless you have really good vision to even see the wires that need to be soldered, you will need a magnifying glass. The field wires are so small that most people do not even notice that they are even there, and fail to connect them correctly. I have repaired glow wire at the field, in the dark, with naysayers everywhere, and only a butane torch to work with. IF you know what needs to be done it is not all that hard to do.

thanks guys. I sorted that issue out a few weeks ago. The issue was that the connection between the green and aqua wire shown in the picture was faulty. I had overheated the copper wire whilst soldering the main copper lead and it had melted the secondary thin wires through the phosphourous layer creating a short circuit. Once I sorted that issue out I haven't had any issues soldering Glow wire end to end. Don't think it damaged the driver as it appears that the driver has overcurrent protection. (RK2 driver from glowwire.com (2000Hz) using super bright glow wire)
