Default Thinking about switching!

Hello I am considering switching from my spektrum dx7s to the futaba T8FG, I have 3 electric helis and one nitro, all governed none HV setup.

So my question is which recievers would I need to get? There are more options than I thought.

Hi natard67, I have an T8FG & I always have used the Futaba R6202 & R6203 receivers using S-Bus. Most modern day gyros work with S-Bus that I'm aware of.

So to start up say I was switching just one helicopter, what would I need? The transmitter, and a reciever, or do I also need an sbus thing? Or is the sbus built into the reciever?

You'll just need the transmitter & receiver. The S-Bus is built into the receiver; but it's not built into every Futaba receiver. The two receivers that I listed are thin & lightweight; but only have four ports; so they're really mainly designed for S-Bus use because one or two of the ports (depending on the model) are S-Bus ports. Futaba's R6208 receiver that's full sized & typically comes with the 8FG is similar to Spektrum with the servo ports; but also has S-bus.

Hi Lozki; I have a DX7s as well. I don't have any experience with the 14SG. From what I understand it's the 8FG for the most part with extras that Spektrum has had like vibration & telemetry.
At first I thought that Spektrum's menu system was way easier that Futaba's; but now that I've gotten used to how Futaba works it's not really all that hard. Either of the radios that you listed are extremely flexible.
Any switch on these radios can be assigned to do whatever function. At times it's probably best to try to stay to standard switch conventions for idle up, throttle hold, etc. but outside of that you can set the switches & dials to do whatever extra.
I believe the Spektrum DX18 has the switch flexibility; but it's a pricey investment.

Your welcome. Both radio system are good; but there are things that I like about futaba better. Not needing to use satellites was a big draw for me as well as the switch flexibility.

That's how I got using Futaba is that a really good friend of mine flys Futaba; then my father got an 8FG. I then figured maybe it's time that I got one as well.

Yeah from what I've seen the menu systems looks identical between the 8 & 14 other than the 14 has additional menus for the extra features.

The amount of channels is the same between the two as far as I can tell.

Are the futaba transmitters skinnier than the spektrum? I have pretty average sized hands but the spektrum just feels a little fat to me. Not to mention I have a bumb pinki on my left hand that makes my grip just a little funny (severed a tendon in my pinki a couple years ago and cant bend it)

I'm not sure how thin the 14SG is. I know that it's wider than the 8FG; but I'm not sure if it's any thicker.
