Not many folks on here with experience of these upgrades, you may have better luck in the mCPX brushless upgrades forum.

Have you hooked up the HP03T motor after the light damped setting was changed? I assume it is still not working? Then it is probably a winding in the motor is burned.

Since you did see smoke from the board area, maybe you had a semi cold joint at the esc connection and it burned there. Id trim the wires back a hair, clean off the enamel and resolder it back on and try again if you havent already. Also check along the entire length of the motors wires, it may have shorted itself in a thin spot in the enamel and is trying to start 2 phases at once.

Tail wag free BL... maybe you can
Just did the test on the stock motor, light dumped and it didn't work. Also did the test on the outrunner damped and it also didn't work.
Is there any way to test the motor is working with a external power directly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Actually I tried to connect the stock battery to the motor wires directly... Perhaps I finished damaging my tail motor? The motor got extremely hot and a burn smell came out of it... Just don't know what to do anymore...

You got way out ahead of yourself and probably just ruined your motor. Patience, and be methodical about your testing.
To test stock main board: Remove the HK10a ESC completely. Plug back in your stock tail motor (assuming this isn't the one you plugged directly into a 2s lipo ) If it works as it should your stock main board is good. Now you can order a new HK ESC and 4000kv HP03T tail motor from asteroid designs and move forward. The positive here is you can still fly with your stock setup! If it doesn't work. Send it to someone qualified to fix it. |

Tail wag free BL... maybe you can

I just set up 4000KV, HK-10 and RRC 65 with stock TX settings. It hovers perfect and handles pitch pumps, flips and FFF just fine. However, as soon as I apply any moderate rudder I get cut outs/tbo. Tail swings way out and starts a hard wag, then recovers fine. It's worse ccw/left turns. Are there settings on the 3n1, TX or ESC I need to change? |

You have to use the tail fw and you have to enable light damped or damped mode in order to have a steady tail. |

Tail wag free BL... maybe you can

It's running BLHeli Tail 10.4 (good buddy). Dylan flashed it and assume it's running the settings on post 301 of this thread. I just put some CA on the rotor to make sure it wasn't slipping. I flew a whole pack and it flies great at a constant heading, even with hard flips and pitch pumps. Tap the rudder to the right 90* and holds heading. Tap the rudder to the left and the tail kicks, almost like a spring loaded water sprinkler. |

Hey Guys,
Received the final items yesterday, but I am in doubt on how to connect both HK-10 ESC with each other. I am planning to stick the tail ESC on the main board and then the main ESC to the tail ESC. The attached picture is what I've done so far. Then I used my voltmeter to check there were no wires or solder shorting, and all went well, then I powered it with a turnigy nano 300mah. Then I started hearing a sound like "tic-tic-tic-tic..." non-stop. I removed the battery and checked again for shorts. My surprise was that touching the red and black wires, with the voltmeter tips, it started beeping, as those wires were shorted. Then I desoldered them and soldered again to perform the test. But no sound this time... So I don't know if I should go ahead and connect them to the main board, as I am afraid it might damage the 3-in-1 board. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for any input. Cool! Good to know!
I am still running 2 esc for 2 non stock motors. It is a very powerful little beast. I really wanted Dylan and Liftbag back to this forum to give us more tips. But I guess they already contributed enough and changed preferences etc. Cheers

I've had over 3 dozen mCPX BL's come across My workbench...
And each time I saw any level of tail-wag, I heard the heli whispering softly... Don't just hover...FLY !! Solid tight-fitting tail boom and larger tail rotor, along with tail boom support kits generally solve the wag issues... In other threads I have supplied proper kudo's to Dylan of Astroid Designs about the mCPX BL he converted to XP7A w/BLHeli running the tail...fantastic machine |
