After much deliberation I just pulled the trigger on a UMX Yak 54. Couldn't pass up on the price

Hopefully it should arrive next week.

This will be my first real plane. Did I just open another money pit?

Yeah, you kinda did. That should be a good plane. Just work out the landing approach early into your first flight. LVC kicking on is a BS reminder that you don't know the plane's still speed or reactions to slow speeds. Congrats on the purchase, there will surely be more planes.

I like Amazon.com due to free shipping in most cases, even on planes that come in huge boxes.

I went to maiden my umx yak 54 yesterday. I reached the flying field and realized I didn't pack the lipo

So I maidened this morning It was a bit windy, but maiden went fine. She handled the wind well, but I'm hoping for a calm morning to really get a feel for her. But to tell you the truth I didn't have the exhilaration I have when I maiden a heli. I hope it was just the wind that didn't make it special.

Its a plane, the only rush you're going to get is either when you almost crash it or when you're flying a plane that can break. Micro's are such low risk aircraft that there isn't much to fear. start doing rolling harriers below 5' for a bit of a rush.

If I had to list a single reason why I want to get into planks, it would be to do rolling harriers. That maneuver looks so cool.

Start with just one control surface at first. i learned with just elevator and then started mixing in the rudder. right now im trying to do slow rolling circles, like one roll per revolution of the circle. i can do two rolls per lap but haven't got the single roll down yet. APP foamies are awesome for learning rolling tricks and harrier/hovers. You can slow them down so much and just give a jab of throttle to pull out. i need to make a vid soon with my Crack Pitts. that thing's a blast.

There are only two places on the planet that you should buy planes from. They are
http://www.3dhobbyshop.com and https://www.extremeflightrc.com

Planes were my life for just about a decade. Been there done that sort of thing. You will not be disappointed with planes from either one.

For balsa, yes they're the best choices. for foamies there's more options like twisted hobby and DW Foamies among others.
