I just jumped into my first scale build! Bought a T-Rex 600 off the for-sale section. It already has a four blade head, so this will be a Bell 430 build! I got the FunKey Bell 222 fuselage, a set of E-Flite 10-15 electric retracts, and a set of alloy struts for the gear, as well as a lighting system. Hopefully this thing will be a blast!

Looks like you are off to a good start with that fuselage and the retracts. Though most start with something similar with fixed gear, I think this is still well withing the capabilities of most and will teach you a lot about what it takes to be a scale modeler.
