Default how about you?

Trying to pin you down a bit as you are good and do not seem to be leaning one way or the other.. We know that you like the RC engine for some of its running characteristics ...what do you personally fly most and why...

ha ha, ya know the interesting thing about what I'm doing here is that I get to touch a lot of different helicopters and products. Most of us get boxed into a single brand or model of stuff and just focus on what we like about it and don't like about everything else

but what I've found is that all of these things have good and bad points that become more obvious when you take a step back. So far the only model that I didn't really like was the RJX Xtreme. It doesn't fly badly but needed some more design time for the gas conversion side of it. They aren't that popular so I don't know the status of any improvements.

Right now I tend to fly my Whiplash gas and GT15 converted Raptor G4 more than anything else. I like the way the models themselves fly very much. But the Radikal seems to fly well as do the Trex conversions I have from both Helibug and HWC.

I'm not trying to be cagey, the fact is they all fly pretty well and the differences between them are subtle. I'm probably partial to the Whiplash in that I had direct input during the design process and some of my ideas got incorporated into the final design.

I agree with Carey, the HB and Rad 30 fly well, but on the subtle differences, I prefer the Whip.

with that then, it is my opinion that you should not do this shootout, also, so you like MA, yet a better/more aggressive pilot than you may like the Century more, so who is to be believed,

Carey, I'm not trying to start trouble on you page, it's just how I feel

If you look over the contents of this forum as a whole, you'll see that I don't really try to pick "winners" and "losers"

I have access to a lot of different things and I simply try to point out good things and things where some improvements would be welcome and then you can decide for yourself whether you want one or you like it.

I've offered ideas to the designers for a number of gasoline models as well as conversions and hope to continue to do so in the future. When Century designs another gas powered model I'd love to offer some suggestions on it as well

One thing I continue to try to do here is just be honest and present the facts as best I can. I won't hide any vendor relationships I have (they are in fact disclosed HERE) or pretend that I'm not a part of a "team" if in fact I am (as some others do).

in this case I was asked a question and I answered it honestly. Six months from now I may have a different answer as I'm just getting used to the Radikal and expect to play with several new models in 2013.

Hello!

Great build thread!

I am curious, is there going to be anyone from the Gasser Community at the Mid America Event in Detroit this weekend? I have a brand new G30 I am hoping to pick someone's brain about. I am VERY new to gassers and this heli has been a joint project with me and one of the LHS. It flies, but I can't help but think it could be better.

At any rate, thanks for the wealth of knowledge GasPoweredThoughts.com is offering!

Hey Chris

I'll have to open that question up to our readers, I don't know.

Have you heard anything more on the Radikal OMG which is to be a smaller version of the G30V2 for use with 640mm blades and high powered 29 sized engines?

Will you be doing a build on it?

Hey Phil

I've asked Peter about it a couple of times but haven't gotten an answer on availability

Since it apparently shares a lot of parts with the Radikal 30 I'm wondering if maybe there will be a conversion?

meanwhile I'm wrapping up the T700 RC conversion here: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=557890

The OMG looks like a real smack 3D gasser, but for my style (oldfart 3D not smack) of flying I think I will get build the FBL version of the standard sized version of it.

Good day! Today I started flying G30v2. I have a question about the engine HWC29Pro. What is the operating temperature? And what is the maximum temperature? Thank you.

hello vadsen

the murky part of temperature comparision is all the variables. If you're not using telemetry for real time measurement then things like exactly where its measured each time, how long after it lands, etc change the rules

these things commonly run between about 250 and 350 fahrenheit when measured with a loop sensor against the cylinder a couple of fins about the exhaust port. The range depends on how hard you're banging on the model. If you get a reading there closer to or over 400 degrees it won't be running long

exactly. the highest my 270 ever showed was 385 with a telemetry sensor between the 2nd and 3rd fins from the top on the exhaust side. I got this reading a few times when running my QD pipe. that made me a bit nervous, so I thought I would compare the telemetry to an IR gun. well, my telemetry was running on average 45 degrees hotter than my sensor every time I measured it. so at idle when my telemetry said I was at 175, my IR gun sais 130, in the exact same spot. so I am assuming that I was running at 345F with the tuned pipe at the hottest.

I have only used the IR gun in 2005, which I initially purchased to get the temps of the electric motors, ESC's and battery packs of my 550 and larger electric helis.

Thank you for this info on the IR/telemetric reading differences that you found.
