What would you get from WOWhobbies to get a tail that actually holds?

I have bought a novus CP (4g3) RTF for 75$ shipped so as a cheap plane i wanted to learn to fly CP indoor while i would not mind breaking this little cheap bird. Now I cant even fly it as the tail just does not hold.

What tail motor upgrade would you get? at 35$ there is the 2g upgrade kit, then at 65$ there is the 2.9g upgrade kit.

Is it worth it? I dont want to spend 35$ and get a motor that wont hold the tail, then have to spend 65$ more. I want a cheap flying helicopter to learn on

The 2.9g motor is preferable because A) the tail on this heli needs all the power it can get, and B) that 2g motor doesn't have any bearings, so it's lifespan will be very limited.

Is it worth it? No, IMO, as you can get a barebones 4G6 for $133. Terence is having a 4G6 clearance sale.

It's a much better heli and has also been rebranded for Novus, so you should be able to get spares from your LHS. Check out the sticky threads in the 4G6 forum, Timewerx's one in particular.

You could use (some of) your Novus CP for spares. Apart from the mixing arms, the plastic head is better than the metal head, so that would be worth swapping over.

Thanks for your input.

What happens is that I am a total beginner to CP and had yet to manage hover even in the G4 simulator with even a huge heli. I just want to make this copter fly for real cheap, as I don't want to end up with 8-9 copters attracting dust.

I want to learn CP and all the complexities, even if it takes years.

Would you throw in just 35$ then? Or its really not worth it...

While a sim is always handy, it doesn't really teach you to fly, it only teaches you which way to move the sticks. Also you won't find a heli in any sim that's anywhere near as hard to fly as this one. Out of all my helis, my 4G3 is by far the hardest to fly, and no rc heli is easy to fly.

As you are new to helis though, I really do recommend sitting this one on the shelf and buying something more suitable to learn with. It will take you a long time and probably several $100 in parts before you learn to fly with this one, if you ever do. You can always sell whatever you buy to learn to fly with, whereas broken parts are worth nothing. Honestly, you will only get frustrated when flights last no more than a couple of seconds then you have to spend hours repairing and setting it back up.

Also, despite it's size, it's not really an indoor heli unless you have a lot of space. I've been flying helis for over 3 years now and I wouldn't attempt to do anything more than hover my 4G3 indoors. As hovering gets boring fast, I only ever fly it outdoors. FP helis are far more suitable for indoors. They are also much more robust and much easier to set up, so you can get one with learning to fly rather than learning to repair.

Well i have started with MCX2 and outgew it real fast... then went to the MSR that i dont fly outside as there are electric wires close and it interferes with the commands and also that its very windy in my region, plus the MSR cant hold the tail as i change power, probably a fatigued motor or all my batteries got old.

I wanted to fly the CP indoors just to learn and get used to the reactions of collective pitch, while using a training gear. I flew the novus CP in the sim and gosh its unflyable... so I just want to hover it as best as possible and learn about the complexities of collective pitch, like all the servos needed, etc.

If you would recommend me another heli for beginning CP what would it be? Apparently the MCPx is one of a kind to learn on... only the price scares me away.

The mCPX is brilliant, well worth the cost IMO, but only if you were going to fly it outdoors. There isn't really much that you can set up on it, since the mixing is on the board and is non adjustable. In fact if you buy the RTF version I believe there are no adjustments that you can make. I notice Finless has made some mCPX videos which might be worth a look.
