Great pics. Bring back some fond memories, like wanting to speed-up getting the engine out quickly so I cut the frame to help!!

It's right that you ought not to be spending mega bucks on this but it seems like the only thing holding you back is the engine. Were it me I would spend a little on the heli assuming of course you have functioning control surfaces.

First off I would change the gyro to something up to date but cheap like the HK401B gyro just to get it in the air.

Also I would persevere with the engine and if need be source a used one and/or another make. At that age the engine should probably be clapped out but maybe not!!

I have converted a few nitro to electric but I knew the helis were nice to fly and was worth the hassle. I doubt I would go down that route with a Shuttle though many do apparently which is why I suggest persevering a while longer with that engine or another engine. I remember I used to put my finger over the muffler outlet when trying to start one of the Shuttles I used in order to build up pressure in the tank but you have to be careful not to overdo it.
What you are experiencing is partly what made me go electric after all the years of nitro - I lost one summer simply pratting about with non starters...........plus great cheap batteries that you can get today........... and other factors.
I love that yellow paint
