Painting the landing gear?
Hi, I had to get new landing gear for my Pantera, which is white. I painted my stock canopy yellow using the flame method, some spay primer (the kind escapes me at the moment) and Krylon yellow paint. It's not the prettiest or shiniest, but is holding up well. Can I do the same for the white landing gear? I just think white landing gear may disappear against a gray sky, hence the reason I like yellow. I may do the tail boom too, but I'm not sure that same Krylon paint will work there? Anyone know?
Thanks in advance By the way, when I ordered parts form JB on Saturday, I got them on Monday! Talk about fast! |

First, thank you for the kudos, we try to treat you like we want to be treated when we're ordering stuff.
Second, sure, paint the gear, it's easy and effective but if I may suggest, send me back the AUD0033-3 (white gear struts) for the AUD0033-2 (heavy duty) instead because these struts are significantly larger and thus, easier to see and because they're black, they provide far better contrast against the sky.

I wouldn't paint the gear, use Rit or Dylon to dye the parts the colour of your choice.

Actually the white gear with white blades looks pretty decent. But, JB, you are right they are a lot smaller! I'll see how I do with visibility, I've already got everything together. I may need to get a larger set of struts for winter and spring though, to keep it out of the snow/tall grass a bit. My canopy is solid yellow, which is ok, but I think I need some contrasting stickers or something to break it up.

The larger gear are larger with regard to the width of stance, not so much with regard to height, so they won't help you keep your belly out of the snow
The wider stance gear are about as close to indestructible as anything possibly can be on a helicopter. The wider stance also comes in handy with those less than perfect autos where the heli may not settle completely level

Just tested everything out. I do have to be careful with autos and where I set it down! I landed in a bit of a hole today and it started to tip. Forvols, they are narrower and a bit shorter too, but they look good in the air. I have landing gear and struts left over from my old Tiger 50, but the aluminum tubes are all bent up and I can't get the grub screws loose, maybe I can salvage the struts from those if I can get the screws out. The new blades tracked well right off the bat,and I went though and replaced some worn links, but unfortunately my old revlock went south today. At least I got some flying in. Working on some mental blocks that I've had since I took a bit of a break from RC. Basically I've been a one-way figure 8 guy and now I have to undue bad habits.
