Compass Delrin Gear
I just wanted to post a picture of the very beefy and huge delrin main gear of the 7HV. I thought it looked pretty cool:

Step 2. Landing Gear assembly.
Thanks
Step 2 on the manual is probably the easiest step of all... the landing gear assembly. One thing to watch out here is the bolts attaching the struts to the landing gear supports are not all of the same length, 4 out of 8 are shorter. These shorter bolts go to the rear as you need the longer ones in the front since you also need to attach the canopy support CF piece in there. The completed landing gear assembly: I bought an extra set of rubber skid dampeners mainly so I could use two of them on the canopy support. This should protect the canopy from scratches. The extra two I decided to add to the skids.

Cyclo's Compass 7HV v2 Ultimate Build
When you check the runners the belt sits on the the volt meter buzzers out. So no need to ground the boom.

I think I will still run a wire from the CF frame to the boom... just to be sure. I am thinking of modding a clamp to an exposed/scratched surface of the boom so I won't need to drill a hole... similar to what I did on my stretched Atom.

Steps 3 & 4. Tail and Main Gear assembly.
I decided to use Silicone Lube on the belt before proceeding with Step 3 tail assembly. I am hoping this will prevent static especially since I intend to fly the 7HV this winter.
After waiting for about an hour for the lube to dry out I proceeded to Step 3 proper and put the tail pieces into the boom. It was pretty straightforward... I followed the manual and used loctite on all screws that mated with metal. I did encounter an issue with the tail however. I noticed that pulling or pushing the tail pitch arm was somewhat tight. I lubed the tail shaft but the movement was still tight. The next step I did was to ream the two tail blade links using the JR sizer... this minimized the tightness. I will have to see during the maiden if I encounter tail issues. If so I might need to figure out how to make the tail section move more freely. Following Daniel and Danny's suggestion on the first page I used a string to pull the belt into the boom. I weighted the end of the string with washers so it easily slides out on the other side of the boom. After I got the boom mounted, the next step was to mount the main gear. Again this was pretty straightforward with the minor issue I encountered was getting the jesus bolt to mate with the lock nut. This is because I did not have any socket wrench and was only using a small monkey type wrench to hold the lock nut while I twist the screw with a driver on the other side. On the Atom, the lock nut went inside and was held by the main gear. On the 7HV, the lock nut was outside the main gear assembly. One thing I am not sure of, and maybe the others might chime in, is how much tension should there be on the belt given there is a tensioner system unlike with the Atom. With both of my Atoms, I run the belt relatively loose. With the 7HV, it is a bit tighter. Here is how the tensioner looks like after I was done tightening the boom: I suspect the tightness might be OK though. Below is the 7HV after Steps 3 and 4 were completed: I am not sure if I can finish the build tomorrow. One thing that appear to be missing on the 7HV kit are the Futaba type plastic servo horns that were supplied in the Atom kits. I think I still have spare Futaba type plastic horns somewhere. Those are what I intend to use on the 7HV.

Up to you but I have done over 100 flights and Mr Redgum has done 300 flights without any issues.

Nice thread Cyclo
A side note about the main shaft; i had to use 1000 grade sand paper (very thin) on the main shaft to remove the black coating because the shaft could not slide in the 1st bearing block. After removing the coating i applied oil to prevent rust.

Don't forget...
You really need to have the motor mount in when checking the main shaft alignment with the bearing blocks... I would mount the motor and all that now... set your mesh... then check your shaft alignment... Once you have set the mesh, you only have to loosen a few screws at a time leaving one tight so it doesn't move... |

You need to set tension on the belt with the tensioner (blocked) or removed first. Set same tension as you normally would then release the tensioner. Here's a picture of what I mean

Also make sure you have the spacers that go between the boom struts and the frame oriented properly. That spacer has a chamfer on it that is easy to miss at first glance.

I made this exact mistake The chamfered side should be on the outside and not towards the frame. Thanks for mentioning it. It is also mentioned in the manual which I read in full before going to sleep. Should have read it cover to cover before starting the build. There are many tips there too.

Step 5. Rotor, Washout, and Swashplate
I disassembled the main rotor as per instructions. I was planning to remove the dampeners as I was thinking of lubing them but I could not force them out using my hands. I decided to leave them as is. Maybe when they are broken in they will be easier to remove.
Wiping out the old lube and applying synthetic grease on the thrust bearings, washers: Making sure the inner feathering shaft is clean of oil and dirt by cleaning them with nylon tipped buds dipped in isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, I applied loctite to the tip of the fastening bolt taking care not to put too much as it may ooze out and cause binding on the bearings. I am surprised the delrin rod links did not need reaming (unlike my Atoms). It took some force to put them in the swash balls but once in they were not too tight at all. With the swash area I would rather err on the links being on the tight rather than loose side. The assembled head/swash... a thing of beauty IMHO: With the rotor brake:

Thanks Daniel... it's getting there but slowly. I still hope I can maiden it tomorrow.

GREAT THREAD CYCLO!
Regarding grounding the tail boom... There is a reason that the ground wire comes with the kit. Back during the initial testing, well prior to the kit's release, I was talking to or corresponding with several of the testers. Several of them were blowing ESC's left and right. Several were not having any trouble at all. The difference was that the the guys who had grounded their tail booms were not having ESC issues. Static is an issue which may affect one machine, but not another, even if the machines appear to be identical. The static issue was considered important enough that the ground wire was included with the kit. For the five minutes or so that it takes to install the ground wire, I would install it. I would also spray the belt with silicone (both sides of the belt), for both static and lubrication related reasons.

Prepping and mounting the motor
Next up is prepping the motor and ESC by soldering the bullets/leds onto the wire. The key for me when soldering heavy duty wires (12 gauge and below) is to use wood as for supporting the bullets/connectors so heat cannot escape. Another item that helps make the solder flow much better is the use of flux.
Applying flux on both the bullet and wire makes for a nice even solder: ESC connectors are up next: Motor with the 13 tooth pinion mounted: Adjusting the gear/pinion mesh by using bond paper. I push the motor/motor support against the gear with the paper in between and make sure there is no play when I move the gears. After the paper is removed there should be a slight play when you move the gears. Motor mounted and secured:
