Mini servos on cyclic, standard servo on tail. You really need to go above the 4kg torque barrier to get top performance from the Protos tail.

The servos you linked to would work, they have full size specs running HV. You would need a receiver battery or external BEC to run them at their full potential though.
I really like the MKS DS9660A+/DS760 combo myself. |

The Futaba BLS251 is another awesome tail servo.
I use the MKS DS9660A+ for the cyclics. Chief

Protos 500 with AR7200BX
Have my ( new for me) Protos 500 in the house and I am going to work on it over the week-end.I am going to use a AR7200BX and the heli came with the standard Scorpion 3026 880KV motor and the standard YGE 60A ESC, It also has the Futaba S9650 and the tail servo is the Futaba S9257.
Now, coming from the smaller helis (my most recent experience is the Blade 450X), the programmable ESC etc are totally alien to me. So I have some questions on what to do here. BTW I do have the programming card for the ESC. I have some experience with the AR7200BX but absolutely no idea what to do with the ESC. Is the YGE 60A ESC the right product / avenue to pursue and should use (assume no 3D but just cruising around for quite some time to come) What is the process to have the AR7200BX work with and how do you correctly set up YGE. I downloaded the MSH information but it is not really stepping me through the set-up process. Any gotchas? Is there a better ESC to work with the AR7200BX. What is the recommendation ? |

Hobby King has a suprisingly good motor for suprisingly cheap. Like $18 or something. Less heat than the Lipotech and almost same power as the scorpion. Been flying it 2 years now 850KV I belive HK3025 or something like that

The yge is awsome ..... you can adjust your headspeed via your radio tc ... you can set the flight mode one at say 0 65 65 65 65 and mode 2) 0 70 70 70 70 and 3) 0 75 75 75 75 and feel out thr colective pop and punch ...
Me i run the streach @70 wich is 2100-2200 and the thing is a beast to me .. Awsome bird my buddies give me crap and say its too quiet .. lol i say WHY ARE YOU YELLING .... Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |

Well tonight i installed servos, new main shaft, new fly bar and paddles...... still waiting on my ESC tail servo canopy blade holder, so i can hook everything up, program and maiden.... i hate waiting.....
only thing i noticed tonight was the case of the motor drops down about 1/8 of an inch and i dont think that is normal.... guess i will need to order one of them along with the balls for the servo arms that i forgot... forgot i also mounted my amazingly small Spartan RC Quark Gold gyro Last edited by M&P_Hooligan; 02-13-2014 at 10:26 PM.. |

Hi... Noticed the Throttle settings. Do you start all of them with ZERO in the low position?? Reason I am asking is because the previous owner of mine suggested the following to me Normal 0-55-55-55-55 Idle up 65-65-65-65-65 So I thought.... hmmm.... perhaps that is because he has a soft start set up in the ESC and as such he does not need a ZERO on the idle up numbers but I am just in the dark on this one. Any input for me?? Also. I am confused as to WHERE ( TX or AR7200) you set up the Gyro value. I know the AR7200 shows you what the approx gyro setting is with the flashing lights but, if you have Parameter B set to Transmitter I was thinking that would then move the ability to set the gyro to the TX and there is the GYRO field in the program that (on my DX8I) is set to INH. Is that where you then set up the GYRO value I wonder?? So again, I am scratching my head as to what is supposed to happen there and what would a reasonable GYRO setting be for the Protos 500. I heard +32 as the number ( heading mode) . WHat do you think?? Thanks BTW. Must say . I do like the Protos and I have not yet turned a blade :-) |
