Default main and tail blade size for x5 v2 belt

im currently running 530mm nhp mains on my x5 v2 belt and 82mm tails .
are these tails to small ,as im having tail kicks on punch outs .
im wondering wether a 90 or 92mm would be better ?
your thoughts please

Hi , I checked after posting and my nhp tails are actually 85mm. But I'm thinking they might be slightly to small for the 530 mains

i have hobbywing 120 v4 running governor, xnova lighting 4025/1120 kv, bk kyle stacey servos , spirit pro fbl . ive been reading alot today regarding the governor causeing problems with tail kick , im going to decrease the p gain and i may try some revo mix in the spirit . my rudder gain is at 48% at headspeed of 2300 approx .
the tail is mechanically perfect and butter smooth , but its never felt as locked as my other 3 heli,s also with spirit pro

Hi, I use the spirit FBL with my X5 belt version. I use throttle pitch curves with cyclic to throttle mixing. You need the longest and wideset tail blades that will clear the main blades to hold the tail. I keep head speed around 2100rpm with 550mm blades. Try the tail speed up gear to avoid high head speed needed to hold tail.
I prefer lower head speeds and went with a three blade tail. Hope this helps

I have the stock tail blades which are 82mm and they hold fine with 515mm main.

if it doesn't hold with 515's to 520's and 82-86mm tail blades.. something in the setup is wrong. plain and simple.

He is running 530s. I remember my tail hold was terrible with Revolution 520mm blades even with 85mm tails. It worked fine with Align 520s, and pretty much everything else I tried aside from KBDD 520s which are really really wide.

Folks!

I will use Rotor tech blades. I plan on using the 560mm with 92 or 95mm tail blade.

560mm Is there a risk of boom strike?

Any thoughts? It seems like there is a handful of blades that are just over 550 that I’d like to try. (VTX 557 come to mind)

A little over 550mm is ok until it’s not. I did see an older thread but it’s out of date relative to the V2:

if you measured from bolt hole to tip, I think you'll be surprised.. most blades aren't exactly the numbers posted. like goblin 570's blades aren't really 570mm.. rotor tech's 560 fly great on it, even though their just slightly smaller than the posted 570's.

the rotor head on the v2 was moved 15mm higher I believe just for this reason.

As I got no answer here and found nothing on the web. I decided to buy the RT515 and 92 tail.

Thanks Tony!

It looks like Dave summarizes it here too: (I wasn’t sure if the 652mm quoted was with or without the 15mm rise of the V2 head)

It does not matter what frames are used, the main shaft and tail shaft are in the same EXACT spot, no matter what frames are used. So blade length will be the same, as long as all other things like what head is used are equal. If you look at the manual for any of the X5 versions, you will notice that everything is in the same place as far as gears, shafts, boom, etc.. So the only significant difference is the battery placement between the original/V1 and V2, this is due to the side frames.

As for the new longer boom option:
The new longer boom is 40mm longer than stock, so you should be able to run 40mm longer blades(if the same length tails are used). If memory serves, the X5 formula can run up to 530mm blades with 82mm tails out of the box in stock form with out issue(612mm total Tails and Mains). So theoretically you could run 560mm mains with 92mm tails with the longer boom as this would be a 40mm addition "652mm total".

Or I guess you could run 570mm mains with 82mm tails(tail might not hold well though with this short of tails with 570 mains), as long as your not using more than 652mm total (main and tail length) you should be safe, hope this makes sense. So with the formula I would not worry about 560's with 92 tails.

My thoughts on the Head (Low vs High)

IMHO, I feel the lower formula head handles better when it comes to harder 3D, and seems to have a more predictable feel(to me), but that is just my opinion, the taller head might feel better to some pilots, and the lower head for others, I guess it depends on flight style, ect... I think it will come down to personal preference more than one head being better than the other.

Hope this info helps.

Dave
Now like a kid in the candy store it’s time to get some longer blades!
