Default Hyperion EOS 5.82 FW update

For those with a Hyperion charger, there is a FW update.

Fixes:
- It has bigger tolerances for balancer circuit failure detection, meaning those that get OUTPUT BATTERY CONNECTION (or slight variances) error at end of charge, will most likely not see them anymore, and if they do, that really means there is a connection issue on your balancer board, no more false positives.

New items:
- Internal Resistance per Cell can now be viewed (under Balancer, while charging)
- Rampup during charge for measuring breaks now takes it slower on storage mode too so Generators can catch up.
- TCS now allows 1% resolution between 95 to 100%
- Storage level % can now be programmed by the user (default 60%)
- new QuickCharge mode but at this time we suggest using TCS rather, especially now when the TCS has better resolution during the last 5%

I send Hyperion an e-mail maybe a year ago about adjusting the storage level.
Nice to see they listened and implemented it.

+1 for Hyperion

Yes. Too bad I still get the "Output Battery Connect Error" on my 720i Super Duo.

It's apparently the connectors on the charger going to the balance leads. When I get the error I stop the charge and go to the balance screen and I see 1 of the cells with an odd, fluxuating voltage. I then lift the balance leads up and the odd voltage returns to the same or almost the same voltage as all the other cells.

Funny thing though is doing a storage charge now seems to take forever. I had some almost new 2s 400mAh packs charging in storage mode (at 1C) and the charger was still going at 62 minutes. Those packs had previously charged to FULL in less than 45 min. I will have to test it a few more times.

So now I have 2 problems with this charger.

I have a EOS0720i NET3 and did the FW update from v5.52 -> v5.82

I use this charger for a few years now and maybe seen this "Output Battery Connect Error" two or three times.
Never been a issue for me.

I do see a few funny things with the new firmware:

- IR values are NOT shown during a storage charge. (They do show during normal charging.)
- IR values are almost doubled compared to v5.52! (My 6S 4000mAh packs are around 20mOhm, now they show up as 35mOhm!)
- Input current can NOT be read during charging. (Making this new feature useless.)

Can anyone confirm this?

I have the same here on my EOS0615i DUO3

Hmm. Same here again. 5 mOhm per Cell makes at least 30 mOhm for a 6S pack...

After a year for Hyperion to bring this new firmware, it feels a bit weakly tested.

I send them an e-mail and they responded back to investigate it.

I'll post their answer.

It seems hyperion changed the IR algorithm after all if I read here.

WHY don't they put this info on their website or inside a changelog file with the firmware?
I hate that.

So the IR readings on the older firmware versions always have been to low?

Just different ways of measurements, there is several ways, today there is more of a standard, read more here
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=4161
Simply put, it's got to be standardised now towards this method.

No IR measurement in Storage mode and to be honest, you should not, you should ONLY measure at same charge % and always close to fully charged.

If you get output connection error (or similar) now, check your cables, wiggle the balance connector, simply put, there is a bad connection somewhere.

Thx, I pointed to that same thread on my previous post.

On the v5.52 firmware IR showed when using storage mode.
Maybe you are right but, or remove the IR values menu at all, or just show them when using storage charge.
Now it seems like it's broken.

How do you think about the new input current menu item?
It's silly to only show while the charger is resting. (It now only shows 0.00A)
I would like to know the input current when charging.

There is things that is not fully implemented, as you see (or rather not) input current is not in the release notes.

IR is not broken, it's simply no IR measurement during storage any more as it cannot be as accurate during storage, zero is "no value".

Thx for clearing this up.

"No value" is better understood with a dash (-) sign, but now I know so it's fine.
IMHO they should work on a better changelog, but I'm happy they still improving things.

Really?
Well, you know what to do next time.

But seriously, it saves a lot of questions for the end user.
Just be honest and detailed with the change log, this will be much appreciated by everyone.

And thx of course for making this charger even better.

No hard feelings, just IMHO.
(I was pointing to the IR change, not the input current thing.)

I really didn't know you are involved with this charger.
I did send an e-mail to the Hyperion sales account and a person called Kaori always answered.
Good to know we have MrMel on HF to ask questions, much quicker way.

Clear.
I used the Hyperion sales account because on their website is nothing else to find.
(No contact page.)

I will update tomorrow my 720Duo3 ...

I hope that Mr.Mel got the feedback from us that it is usefull to read the current during charge because I do not have an amperage meter on my case.
And could add some features from cheaper charges as motordrive & foam cut.

And yes ...that output connector error after the 5.52v seemed very irritating thing sometimes.

Anyway lets see.......
