Default What did you do with your Mini Protos today?

Crashed my stock mini.
Can't really explain it, but it was all pilot error, lapse of concentration, nek minit, thud.
It was not a small crash, didn't look good.
I tore it down, the only broken parts were:
1x main blade - I had one spare from previous crash
1x blade grip
1x main shaft - very slight bend
1x tail fin

I was surprised the fs was fine and that the canopy(fusuno) didn't get damaged at all.

I had all parts in stock and repairs were done in less than 30mins, ready to go again

I started repairs on mine last night but discovered that i stripped 2 cyclic servos. They were still working after the crash so i thought they were fine but when i move them by hand they make crunchy sounds. So now i have to wait on the gear sets to arrive. I removed my boom just to be sure and it does have a very slight bend in it. Probably wouldnt have hurt anything but i swapped it out anyway. Ill use the lightly damaged one for an experimental B450 stretch ive been thinking about trying.

The good news though, is that when i ordered parts, experiencerc.com had the aluminum servo frames in stock. I bought two and installed them last night. These suckers are awesome! Price is high, but they made my main shaft line up smooth as silk without any finagling. It was brainless, just bolt em in there. No more washers to space the plastic ones away from the frame. Im super psyched. I would get them for my P500 too, but the stock plastic ones lined up smooth as silk on it, so im leaving them alone until i crash it or something.

Man, i cant wait to get this thing in the air again. It was on its way to becoming my favorite overall heli, and that was even before the sweet ass aluminum servo frames.

And now i found a damaged bearing in the blade grip. Anyone ever see a bearing break like this? It came out of my broken grip but the only part of the grip that broke was where the ball screws on. Strange...

Wow, man, that's one strange bearing you got with your kit. Never seen anything like that..

Flew couple of packs outside of my house yesterday. Almost crashed a couple times but made it look like blade scrapes, so all in all, pretty good day

It was one piece as it came in the kit. It broke when i crashed. I just think its a strange way to break cosidering that its protected i side the blade grip. It probably wouldve continued working in there if it was held tightly together but im not going to chance it. Heres the piece that broke off of it

... had a similar issue some months ago, the bearing looked like yours ... but i would blame wear after some hundreds of flights for that ...

I installed front and back CNC guide pulleys yesterday (there's no way in the world you can get me to take the tail apart to install the boom block pulleys unless I crash). Also put on the bottom CNC bearing block.

I was out shooting autos like crazy today, even did two blade stops. All fine, except for the last landing which ended on a sloped spot and the heli tipped over. Broken tail servo horn and most likely bent feathering shaft. Oh well...still worth it!

Finished my night flying setup using Rotortech Luminous 320mm blades and AEO LED strips
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S02G_vIn9M[/ame]

My very first night flight ever. Total darkness with some wind thrown in.
New challenge for me. But fun.

The LEDs are on the fin, and to a rod on the horizontal stabiliser, so I can change from night to day by a couple bolts and change of fin, stab, skids and canopy.

I really like the rotortech blades as they turn on when the rotors spin, and use normal 3.7v lithium cells. So are replaceable. No danger of a bad lipo.

Oh. Very cool! I saw those blades a couple weeks ago. I've night flown my logo 400 and logo 500. To attached to the 500 to night fly. Might get these blades. How heavy are these blades? Do you know how many flight you get out of those 3.7 v cells?

Great vid!

No idea on how long the batteries last, I've only had a couple of flights.
I weight a blade tonight and get back to you.

Found time to tune my new stretched tail with the ikon today. It's almost there, just trying to get the slightest tail blowout out of hard positive collective maneuvers. First flight with 350mm blades today (edge 353's), and oh man what a difference 56mm makes on the disc loading on this thing. Love the feel and look.

Last night finally finished my repairs. I got sick of waiting on my bearings to arrrive from Boca, even though i paid the expensive shipping fee. So i asked at the lhs and they actually had the right size bearings! They have a big huge bearing bin but every other time i ask they dont have the size i need so i gave up asking. But this time they did, so i finished the repairs. Now i just have to balance my new blades and go for maiden. I hope the weather allows for that this weekend. Im getting an itch that the 130x just isnt scratching for me right now.

Got to fly 4 packs this morning. The first 3 was usual big air stuff between 50 and 75 yards up ( enough time to cover mistakes ) then the last pack did a lot of the same things down low between 5-25 yards lot of fun...increased pucker factor
