Smile New TracX (Compass) FBL trex 500 head is out!!!

I don't mean to start a riot or anything but the long awaited TracX head is out as of today. I ordered mine from Nankinhobby.com and it shipped today! Time to get this Vertigo 1800Kv ready to shred some sky! Mike at Nankin was very helpful too as I have been tracking this part for over a month! Hope you get yours soon! My rebuild/ Upgrade is almost complete!

Interesting. Does the website list any parts for it?
I don't see an assembly blurb or parts list.

Default It's here!

Mine arrived today. It is just like the Compas FBL heads so I would follow their parts explosion if needed. Here are some pics. As soon as by BeastX arrives we can give this "V-Rex" a whirl! This head mounts on the Trex main shaft and uses the Trex Swashplate.... FYI.....

I was wondering if there are any parts, in case we need them after a crash, for the head Tracx, and where we will be able to find them ?

what's with that
sometimes retailers do that so they don't piss off the International dealers...

That hub does not apear to have any swashplate driving mechanism on it, those two screws are for clamping onto the main shaft / mast. Also, what's with the two differing heights for the Jesus bolt ??
Re the pitch change rods, what gives in a crash, normally the pitch change rods will depart first, in this case those massive clevis will stay attached to the grips, which will bend first ?? I see the normal plastic rod end on the bottom of the pitch rod... that wil come off the swash, but my crash history ;-) shows said rod needs to depart the grip also...

How much was this ??

I hear Align is coming out with a center hub that will have the built in flats to attach the swash driver arms..

those "massive clevis" drive the swash. it is cantilevered and has a relativity large moment. but there are less parts.

I really like this head but is there any performance gain with this? Or is it all just looks?

skered53,

"That hub does not apear to have any swashplate driving mechanism on it"

Not needed-the Delrin Tubes drive the swashplate.

"those two screws are for clamping onto the main shaft / mast."

They clamp the head to the main shaft in addition to the normal bolt. The head grips the main shaft tight and does not wear and rock, like some other brands do.

"Also, what's with the two differing heights for the Jesus bolt ??"

This is so you can use the head on different helicopters-I have the 600 sized version on a Trex 600E and a Kyosho Caliber 700, in addition to the one on my Compass 6HV (also the 500 sized one on my Atom 500).

"Re the pitch change rods, what gives in a crash, normally the pitch change rods will depart first, in this case those massive clevis will stay attached to the grips, which will bend first ??"

There are no clevises as such. There are very heavy duty ball links attached to the delrin drive tubes. These links are threaded on to 2.5mm studs which are, in turn are threaded into the delrin tubes, so that you can adjust the links.

Fortunately, I have not cracked one of these up yet. In a severe crash, I have seen the links pop off from the balls on the upper deck of the swashplate and, in one case, the delrin link broke.

"I see the normal plastic rod end on the bottom of the pitch rod... that wil come off the swash, but my crash history ;-) shows said rod needs to depart the grip also..."

The blade grip arm, "Y" shaped arm, delrin tubes, links, etc. are all separate parts. If you really, really hit hard, you can replace the parts individually (the blade grips arms, for example, can be removed from the blade grips and replaced, which is not the case on some brands of heads)

"How much was this ??"

"I hear Align is coming out with a center hub that will have the built in flats to attach the swash driver arms.."

I have seen some already on some of Align's larger models. Here, you don't need swashplate driver arms at all.

Very simple, neat, and effective.

Best rotor heads I have flown in 36 years. KBDD Dampers in all four of mine.

I had to wait a bit to get mine for the 600 (a few weeks ago).

They said they were getting more stock in, this week or next, but I am not sure if it is parts only or complete heads.

Perhaps Nankin will see this and chime in.

I'm about ready to do fbl on my 500. Do I need to also order the fbl main shaft or can I use this head on the original shaft? Also, does one need to change any balls on the swash? And. if I may, what are all the washers and o rings used for on this head?

Thanks.//

Darmie,

I have not yet upgraded a Trex 500 to this head so, I apologize, I cannot answer all of your questions based on experience.

On the Trex 600E (which I did upgrade to the TracX head), it was a direct swap, with the original length main shaft remaining in place. The delrin drive tubes were the correct length and theTracX ball links fit the Align swashplate balls perfectly.

On my Atom 500 (same rotor head), I use KBDD Dampers (although I did fly the stock "O" ring dampers for years).

The washers are used as shims to adjust any end play in the feathering spindle.

The "O" rings are for the stock damping system (a machined delrin sleeve with two groves for the "O" rings to seat in.
