Default How much servo torque?

For the basic plastic kit... I recently crashed it. I noticed after picking up the pieces that the front right servo had stripped gears. The left one has slop in the gears. The rear one is fine. The servos are cheap futabas with only 44oz of torque and plastic gears. Questions are is 44oz torque sufficent, and because one servo has sloppy gears and one is stripped, did the crash do this or just crappy servos?

44oz is probably at the lower end of what you need. Of course it depends on your flying style but to give an idea..
DS821 Spektrum servos are widely used in 550s and are generally accepted as being good enough for agressive sport / mild / moderate 3D. They have 72oz torque on 4.8V (88oz on 6V).

Now a 550 is heavier and swings bigger blades but it gives an idea. 821s would be a good servo for a 425 plastic frame - they are readily available and low cost. I've had a set in a CF framed 550 (10S swinging 500mm CF blades) for years and apart from breaking one in a crash they have worked flawlessly.

Well now that I know that, it means the ds821 would be too small for the heli they're in right now. A raptor 70. Time to take them out of the raptor and put them in the gaui. Looks like I'll eventually need some good servos to put back in the raptor. It can wait since I only can fly the nitro at the school near by and soccer is in full swing taking up the entire field. Luckily there is an electric only flying field 2 miles away.

I'm using the Hitec 485HB , plenty of torque like 66 oz and seems to be fast enagh, and best of all they are cheap...
