Triabolo 800 motor question
I have an opportunity to pick up a barely used Triabalo 800 for a pretty good price here in Germany. The only thing that I am uncertain about is that it has an X-Nova 4035-400Kw motor. I currently only do circuits, loops roles and other basic stuff so I imagine that motor will be enough for my flying style but would like to have the opinion of the more experienced gurus here. Also with 12s and the 160 Kontronic, can anyone suggest a good pinion for that motor? I have seen a thread where nooobs is running that motor on his 800 Tri so i think I should be fine with it. I have no problems with switching the motor out if my skills ever advance above its limits
Thanks in advance. Matt |

Triabolo 800 motor question
Matt
I run a pyro 800-40. Same KV rating with the 18t pinion because that is the smallest I can go with the 8mm shaft. I also use the kosmik 160. I can easily fly from 1200-1600. It is a little lower on throttle curve but the kosmik can handle that. I believe my idle 2 is 75%. Scott Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Scott!
The seller came back saying it has a 15t pinion on it right now which according to MrMel puts me between 1115 and 1354 RPM (1203 at 80%) which i think will be within a usable range for my flying. If I need more I can "simply" move up to 14s which could take me up to me 1500. Now lets hope the deal comes though. |

That motor will be perfect btw. Just plug in a larger pinion, or go with 14s like I did. But I am using a different motor myself.

Thanks, it will be a while before I get it in the air. I will be taking it apart and reassembling it together with my son :-) I am sure the seller did a great job assembling it but for my piece of mind I need to do it myself.

I just wanted to revisit this thread and post my experience with flying the 4035. If you are like myself and mainly interested in lower RPM sport flying and light (i.e. easy) 3D then the X-era/X-nova 4035/400 with 14S and 15t pinion is a great combination. I can fly dynamical for 8 minutes at 1400rpm and 10 minutes at 1250 on my 14S 4000Mah batteries. I've even flown for 15 minutes practicing hover maneuvers at 1050rpm.(I actual still had 30% left in the packs so I could have stayed up longer but I actually got tired.) I dont yet feel like the Tri us underpowered but I hope that day will come as my flying improves.
The combination of 14S and the smaller motor running closer to its peak efficiency keeps things noticeably cooler. Even when flying in 30°c weather the ESC temps never got above 45°c and I could hold my hand on the motor. Now on the other hand, my experience with 12S is not that great. 900 and 1050 are Ok but at 1250 the Tri definitely feels underpowered. Even for my basic flying skills. Oh what a difference 7.4 Volts make Management summery: If your not going to be doing a lot of hard 3D and want long flight times, don't be afraid to run a smaller 4035 class motor on your Triabolo... provided you can go with 14S. |

I run a pyro 700-45 on 12s in my 800 tri.. She flies beautifully and I can go about 10 minutes if I wanted.. But I stay around 5-7.. That's about all my ADD can handle.

Sometimes I feel like I could fly forever.. Others a few minutes have me shaking.. Mostly every time I fly the S.. Lol

I had a Hacker A50 'Turnado' 470KV motor in my Tri 700 and it worked very well and had plenty of power. When I first started flying it we had much cooler weather and the motor stayed cool as well, only a bit warm to the touch. But then as the weather warmed up the Hacker was starting to run quite hot, enough so that I could not touch it let alone hold my finger on it for any amount of time. It was such a drastic increase in heat that I started to worry maybe the bearings were wearing or something (although the Kosmik logs showed no higher motor amps being drawn and the FET and BEC temps were still low).
So I was offered a Pyro 800 at a price I couldn't pass up and predictably it runs much cooler even in quite warm weather. I have the Hacker in a different airframe now just to test. It's a shame because it really punched above its weight and worked really well. I know what you mean about the flight times! I can get 8 minutes very comfortably on the 5000mah packs and I'm so used to 5 or 6 minute flights that I instinctively start thinking it's about time to land well before I need to. I can even get 6 minutes on 3500mah packs! That's what 1390 rpm headspeed gets you (and it doesn't need any more than that).

The pyro 750 is also a great option. Chuck has one in his tri 800 and I flew it for 11 min and 30 sec at 1100 rpm doing light 3d and only used 3500 mah out of 5000 packs
