so i guess a little bit everything

I like the work done on the shaft - never real thought about the predetermined break point with a C-clip --- very true
certainly does make it a weak point

Recently i've rewound one of Quantum 4530. This is a very "courios" motor, like a Xera 4530, and with some similar expect. Selected winding are 4+5x1.4YY for 520 Kv value.

Based on the stator shape, teeth/slot ratio, magnetic saturation in the stator may never happen even at high amp...How exactly to determine the best ratio of teeth/slot considering magnetic saturation and weight? or what would be the amp limit for a given teeth/slot ratio?

Very nice Dekker!

I am struggling right now with my Xera 4530 and 1.5mm wire. No tools I currently use will fit properly to flatten the wires. Have to think of some sort of alternative or maybe re-think the approach.

Do Quantum motors have better stator coating than Xera? On Xera it is paper thin and pretty easy to damage or even peel off.

The Q4530 coating is the thinnest compared to Align/Kontronik and quite fragile on the outer edges. You have to take that into account, or it will certainly damage in those areas.
To me the removal of the original wind was more of a problem, it took me longer to get the original wind off than to put the new one on (I wanted to count original turns). It is really very well fixated on these motors with some sticky glue/varnish that is impregnated into the whole winding. Trying to remove the winding in a hurry will also cause to damage the stator coating quicker.

Bumping an old thread, but how does one set the proper endplay on one of these Quantum 4530 motors?

I just installed a new one on a build, and the vibration analyzer in my SK-720 went crazy, triggering a high frequency vibration alarm at about 410 Hz (24600 RPM). The spectrum shows the majority to be "up-down" vibration (i.e. along the motor shaft), with no significant components in the lateral or for-aft directions. The bearings don't feel "notchy", so I'm thinking it might just an excess endplay issue (even though I can't feel any endplay by tugging on the stator/can with my hands).

I suppose I can press the shaft farther into the can, but then I don't think I can reattach the c-clip. How do you motor winders deal with this issue?

Sometimes changing the settings on the ESC will solve vibration problems, see the thread about the Pyro600 motor with vibes.

Default Use paper on this one...

Done one of those. same pattern as the first one Ralph did. Was real fun winding until...

Can definitely say the coating is too weak - I was on a trip when i winded it and couldn't check for shorts with a megger. A multi-meter showed no shorts, but when i got home i discovered one coil shorted on the 1000V test Definitely use paper on this one!.

So had to un-coil that one and put paper on the corners. Also put 3 layers of varnish beneath the coils and the stator (glue to the corners) from fear of future shorts. Hope it will hold.

Here is the data after winding 1.4mm (4+1)+4, if it helps someone:

R=0.0096 mOhm.
N-spec = 524 (castle. high) (517 for both partial motors).
Io = +-3.5A
