Default SK540 on plane

I know this is a heli forum...I was bored so I put an SK540 onto my Skywing Extra 300 48", and it did wonder for me just like FBL did for my learning of Helicopter 3D flying. I havne;t flown a plane for years...and wasn;t good at it in the past. But maiden 4 flights and I was doing harrier and knife edge flying, hands free 3-4 seconds and the Plane just track like no body business in a windy condition.

I first saw an video of someone using sk720 on a extra 300...that give me the idea to try SK540 , and i am loving it.

One of you have ask me how I set it up....
attached are pictures that show how I am setting up my Parkzone Extra 300 now.

Key area are :

- Gyro mount position need a small trick to get the compensation right. You can see in the picture that while the servo bus face right...you actually configure it to think that it is facing left. ( same if you actual mounting is forward, you configure it an back. )

- turn off govn, swash ring, piro compensation

- tail drag compensation , collective and cyclic all set to ZERO

That should do the job...please make sure you you check the compensation on all axis to compensate pre flight check.

If you try it , post here and let me know how it goes..GOOD LUCK

Jonathan

Someone came out to our field the other week with a Parkzone Extra 300 that they put a ZYX fbl gyro in. He said it had a airplane mode listed in the software so he wanted to give it a try. The tail was kind of twitchy but it would hold a knife edge across the field hands free.

This sounds interesting, makes me want to dust off one of my old planks.

You would be much better off using something that is designed for that purpose. The APM2 is less than $200 and it has much more capability. They also have firmware options for airplanes, multi-rotors, and conventional helicopters. I have one flying on a multi-rotor and it has awesome capabilities. I should have an airplane flying with one early next month. This sport is so awesome with all the new things on the market.

The ZYX-S is dirt cheap and it says it has modes for:
Quadcopter +, quadcopter X, standard fixed wing and delta fixed wing

Tempted to pick one up and play around with it on an elevon foamie.

On the other hand as one of the people screaming cheater at the guy who had one that would make me a hypocrite
