Keep us posted on what you hear from them, but I don't see what they can do about information the public figured out on their own.

I doubt Futaba will ever publicly or privately disclose the model map, however I believe JR did disclose it to one of their team pilots who developed a commercial model editor for JR radios a few years back. The product was available in UK, but I don't know if it ever made its way to the USA.

I have the 12MZH - I would be willing to help test this if needed also. I (like some one else above) loved the campac editor Hanson Hobbies had out.

Well, it's not quite as simple as that, but the files for some of those types of models has already been decyphered and is posted on the internet. I will add those formats to the program, but the problem will always be getting the data from the campac to the PC.

Oh, yes I have started to map those files. No, it's not as simple as a few tags with attached values (like XML). They are a binary format file with checksums and no tags. Mapping the files requires making 1 change at a time and compare files to see what changed. No small task given the number of features in the radio's we are talking about here.

Seriously? I guess because there a quite a few dependancies in the data model.

There have been several CamPAC interfaces available over the years. I had one back when I had my 9Z. If you search the Internet you can find them.

I know that Ace, but it's not something that most people with those radios are going to have.

Of course, most people aren't going to buy one unless they need on. My point is that if you need one there are resources available. Although out of stock at the moment Hansen Hobbies has already developed the technology as well as a model editor.

That was the one with the following message: "4/19/07 - In March we sold out of our beta run of interfaces. We're currently gathering feedback from everyone on the product before releasing the next run, which should be available shortly. The "Add to Cart" button to the right is active in case you want to pre-purchase."

At this point, I'd be surprised they have enough demand to warrant production of more, but you never know. I found the documentation on the file format and will include it in the program.

On another note, I can finally get back to decoding the file. I finally got my12z back from Futaba service. Oooohhh, the heavy duty springs on the gimbals are nice.

I thought the CamPAC's were a thing of the past until Futaba decided to incorporate them back into some of their recent radios. With the proliferation CF, SD, etc. memory cards I was hoping the CamPAC's were gone forever, but apparently not.

Question Request for help

Ok I finally got my radio back and I'm working through the file format. For those that would like to help me map out the futaba file format, please let me know which radio you have, and which module you use? I need to know this to determine which set of files to send you to make changes to. Obviously this will be easiest for the 12z and 14mz users that have a memory card and a way to access that memory card from their computer. I figure I can use 2 good helpers in this endeavour.

I am interested in testing this, if the file can be edited I was wondering if I could port it to Excel . If I could get it to export to a .csv file or equivilent then there are templates out there where we can import them into.

While the data could be exported to XML, exporting to CSV would be unlikely. They format doesn't have the ability to maintain the relationships necessary to create the .mdl files. I am slowly but surely mapping the Futaba and JR files. It is a long process with having to also provide for my family in there somewhere :-). I hope to have a first version out around May.
