Default CX-3x1000 setup walkthrough

I see a lot of people having trouble setting up their copterx FBL units. Here is what you will need:

CX-3x1000 Flybarless 3-axis gyro system
CX-PB001 Program Box
PC Running Windows

First thing is go to this website and download the software.
http://www.ky-model.com/copterx/CX-3X100USB.zip

Then you will need to extract the archive files and then run the file called CopterX1.0

Now click the button that says setup and follow the instructions that come on the screen. They will walk you through the setup.

Hope this helps.

If you don't have the programming box, you really should get it.

The programming box isn't what allows you to program through a PC. You need the Tarot USB adapter for that.

Edit: Oh, I see what you are saying. Use the instructions from the software for the programming box. It seems counterintuitive to get the programming box as a more mobile way to program, but still need a computer to read the program instructions. I would just use the manual in that case.

The above are good tips for the fine tuning.

But,for just the basic setup that will safely get your 450 heli in the air, no usb cables or programming box is required.

I followed these instructions and it worked great.

I only have a Mac and Linux machines, so windows is not really an option for me. Are the instructions the software gives unique, or is it the same description of the PID settings found elsewhere? I may get the program box.

The manual is pretty terrible.

If you have a netbook or laptop already check this thread out and buy the usb program cable from ac-rc.com http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1568592

This link gets you the "official" manual from Copter-X, for whatever it's worth:

Default servo selection

Hi,

I am currently configuring my 3x1000 using the USB cable and do not know which servo types I should select.
On the swash I am using
Turnigy MG930 Digital Metal Gear Servo 3.6kg / 26g / 0.14sec
Tail servo:
BMS-661DMG+HS Super Fast Digital Servo (MG) 6.4kg / .08sec

Are these 1520us,960us or 760us servo's?

cheers,
Ruben

The first one my friend has on his hk500, and this is run on standard equipment, futaba, they are on the cyclic and therefore it is my opinion that they are 1520us and I would run them on my system as such.

The second one I can't find any info on but again if it was mine I would try it first on 1520 as it does not say anything to the contary in the description. Therefore I would not class it as anything different than a standard servo.

Hi Busher,

Thanks for your reply. I have setup the system with the 1520us settings.
Yesterday I have tested it for the first time indoor.
It was not flying stable at all, it looked like the pitch was compensated in stead of the aileron and elevator. The heli was sort of hopping up/down. Luckily I was able to land it properly. I changed the setting from soft3d to beginner but still no stable hover.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ruben

Try reducing the gains for the pitch and roll axis.

The problem may be that it is overcompensating in a direction, and then moves the other servo to compensate for that.. Do you have the recommended distances of servo horn lengths?

Also be sure that the you have the gyro orientation correct, but if you didn't I would have thought it would crash instantly.

I have reduced the gains, I read that it should be lowered to 25.
Currently I do not use the recommended servo horns lengths because the ball is binding to the servo case if I move it in to the recommended length.
I have to test with the new gain settings.

Ok, this is why your having problems. The FBL unit is over-compensating on every movement it makes. This is because it moves the servo x degrees, but that same amount of adjustment by the servo generates more movement on the swash than if the balls were closer to the center..

Because of this, I think you need to reduce your P gain for roll and pitch axis.

Thank you for your advice!! I was able to get the 500 in a pretty stable hover after adjusting the gain settings.
I think that I should lower them just a bit more to get the results I'm looking for.
I will test with several gain settings and let you know the result.

I'm jumping up from a FP CB180Z to building a barebones kit 450 FBL heli.

The answer to the following question might bepainfully obvious, so have your barf bag handy in case obvious newbie queries turn your stomach

Here's the question:

Does the CopterX 3x1000 FBL controller handle all tail holding issues? Meaning, on a FBL heli, using the CopterX 3x1000, I would not need (and would have no use for) a separate tail holding gyro?

Thanks!

The 3X1000 will do the tail as well - you don't need a separate tail gyro.

And don't worry about asking dumb questions - everybody was a newb once, and better to ask the question and know the answer, than suffer in silence and waste time and / or money

Hi Folks

Just received a CopterX CX-3x1000 FBL controller, and am having a strange problem. I have folloed the Tarot video, which helped quite a bit, but my issude is that although I am getting all the lights coming up on the AR9000 and the CX unit, the sticks on my PCX9 do not make anything EXCEPT the tail servo move, so I cannot go through the setup.

Anyone got any idea how I overcome this ? Thanks in advance

Iasn

Is the Rx bound to the Tx? you need this before it will work

Hi mikeJ
For sure, I have 2 LEDS solid on my AR9000. Esc power feed goes to Throttle on the Rx, all other wires are apparently as per the documentation. I managed to get the right setup lights coming up after watching the Tarot Video, which gives me the COrRECT sticks to move, but apart from the tail servo I just have hanging out of the CX3100, I get no other movement of the head at all. The Video shows the head moving throughout the setup process - obviously, but mine will not do so.

The main things that you need (assuming Tx is talking to the 3X1000) is the Tx set to 1 servo and the 3X1000 set to the appropriate swash setting - what heli are you using this on?

Cheers,
Mike.
