Question What FBL unit for a G-20

I've never trusted the plastic grips and head pieces on a stock G-20 I purchased a all metal flybarless head but am having trouble finding a good finding a good FBL unit currently using a AR7200BX which does OK, but the swash starts thiching at Mid RPM levels once the rpms come up everything is fine ,But it gets kinda scary though the mid levels, last thing i want to do is have a Tip

Most FBL units are designed around the vibration impulse llevels of electric and nitro helis. Gasoline powered helis have higher vibration impulse levels then either of these, so you will find some FBL units work better then others.

One that seems to do rather well is the Beastex units, but most can be made to work when you insure your engine is installed as well as possible for the least run-out, best ballance of the fan unit and best engine carb setting to all add up to the least vibration level possible.

It also seems experimenting with different damping tapes can also help.

As for your comfidence in the plastic grips. My G-20 has had the stock plastic LT head turning at 1950 on 640mm blades now for 4 years or so, flying intermediate type of 3D with no problems what so ever. If yours has the HD plastic head, their grips are even more substantial

Thanks ngin After my hours of reading adds for all the units out there, I went ahead a ordered a Ikon, I know it's basicly the same unit as an MSN brain, But they claim to be able to handle gasser's/nitro's and turbines better than any other unit on the market I guess I find out As far as the Beast X you mentioned, My Spektrum AR7200BX was built off there platform, spektrum just built in an RX in to the unit. I think some of my problems be from excessive vibrations due to something in the mechanics, so I'am going back over everything now... As far as plastic blade grips I had a Blade SR sling a Plastic grip off with a 200mm blade on it and it almost cut though the side wall of my buddys >Stran Steel building< from 20/25 ft. away,,, I don't trust Plastics

I have used the beast x on 2 gassers with zero issue but the new units such as the new Skookum 540s , V bars and many others have zero issues with vibration and they want them mounted with thin firm tape. I am sure the Ikon will be fine also but the AR7200BX should have been I have never used one but I thought it was basically a Beast X .

I've used both Beast X and AR7200BX units. The only issue I've ever had was using the stock mounting tape. If the heli is set-up okay and without excessive vibs and the FBL is mounted on 3M 4130 tape you should be okay

I've been using a Beast-X on mine with no issues. Mounted it on the rear upper electronics tray. This thing is rock solid!

I've got the AR7200BX on all my other helicopters. Thinking about converting to a AR7200 BX on the G20.

Thanks guys , I think after tearing it down and going over everything think i've got my bad vibs worked out, my fan hub was bad out of round I could not see it by eye, but it was bad enough that the fan had cut groves in my ignition pick I guess it was wobbling at low speeds and would level out as the rpm's came up the AR7200 BX will be going back on it for now as soon as new parts arrive
