Default MKS DS760 Tail Servo

Upgraded my tail servo ... settled on the MKS DS760.
Very fast .027 sec, and good torque. Price is reasonable. Good reviews.

It is spec'd at 760usec/560 Hz.

Had to choose 333 Hz as there is no faster update rate available on the 720.

Had to use .04 custom speed as YOU CAN'T set a lower speed than .04 on the 720?

That seems odd to me, I planned on using .03 sec speed, as the voltage at the servo is slightly under 6V with my setup and voltage drop through the 720 to the servo.

Seems like a shame to not be able to use the speed of the servo, unless I am missing something ...

/Doug

=] Doug good point,

the SK system can only react at a certain level, by adding hardware beyond those limitations causes unwanted feedback.

bit like putting an overpowered engine in your car, can the std. brakes cope with stopping it??!

Flew the 700E with the .04 speed setting. Seems to work OK, the tail is very responsive and solid.

Still wish Skookum would allow lower inputs in the user interface, even if in the FW it is capped to something higher internally, in the event that in the future the FW changes and can deal with faster servos, at least the correct description of the servo speed would be in the setup.

And of course, a selection for the DS760 would be nice, as I expect more people to use them over time.

The speed setting in the software doesn't bother me so much but I am slightly surprised that the SK720 doesn't appear to support 760us/560hz servos. After doing a lot of reading on tail servos, it appears that servos capable of this spec are the way to go for best performance. I think the V-Bar is the only unit that does at the moment so I may end up with a mini-V for my next FBL conversion.

I have a BLS980 which requires 760us/560hz but I see that’s not supported. I sure hope that the next firmware upgrade will support these new higher speed servos.

Do you think it will work with some other settings or should I get another servo? I have to have such an expensive servo and not be able to use it.

??????????????????????

It should work, I think, since they do support the narrow pulse but not the faster update rate. IE, you should be able to run it at 760us/333hz. Either way, it is disappointing.

=] my full size V-bar offers these tail servo options = 333Hz being the fastest speed

the SK provides 900 deg./sec if you desire speed.

no doubt a 560Hz tick box will come along one day!

You can use the 333 Hz update rate with the BLS servo, it is just a slower update rate. You have to use the exact pulse width but can live with a slower update rate. Although it is a bit of a shame to have the bottleneck in the 720 and not the servo.

Let us know how the brushless version works. The 760s are amazingly fast to watch ...

It works fine, I use this servo with my skookum 720. Just set it to 760/333hz. The 760 support is required, the hz is the maximum the servo is designed for, it will work at 50hz but the updates will not be as fast, so run it at the highest available rate. With the Microbeast some people are now backing off the hz on their cyclic servos as they are getting too hot at the higher rates.

MKS DS760

The latest sk540 software has the 560Hz 760us option now. Just FYI. I'm buying this servo to replace the ds655 on my stock 600dfc due to the 655 freezing. Will see if this servo works with sk540.

I have this servo on 2 of my helies - and on any of them from now on
I think i felt an improvement changing from 333Hz to 560 - but it could be the firmware itself or my imagination...

But my high speed (like roll of death) pyro's are more consistant for sure.
