Dampeners
I need to replace the dampeners in the 7HV - no big deal, it's due - maintenance. I was planning to replace with the Compass dampeners unless there is a better option.
I'm an aggressive sport flier, mild 3D, big-air loops, rolls, lots of flips and piro's, etc... I do fly fast through everything. Any reason not to stay with the Compass dampeners? |

Not sure there are any better options anyway. They are same as KBDD Neon Lime, I believe.

They are KBDD Lime Greens!
Make sure that you coat them, inside and out, with silicon grease!

Thank you gents. What is the difference between the lime green and the blue?
BTW - flew it a bunch of times last weekend at our last N.E. Funfly for the season. Myself and one other, the only 7hv's there...sad |

Blue for low headspeed. Greens still seem to do well pretty low though

Yup, the green ones seem to still do well low speed. 1700 all the time on them and as mentioned, a lot go lower, so i'd stick with the greenies if your typically flying higher speeds.

Those are awesome speeds to use IMO! Best of both worlds I think. Good to see.

I like that range too, I think better suited to this model, vs the ultra high speeds used on the Goblins. I most prefer 1875 with my Jive120, Xera 4530. It's a torque factory. I sort of wonder how some 710mm blades would do at that same speed? I think the 716's are a touch too long for running 115 tails.

I'm running a KDE 700-495, CC 160 Edge HV ESC, vbar 5.3 and vbar gov using Compass700 blades and 115 aligns in the tail. Power is a joke....insane.
Two great updates made it fly much better. (1) I changed all ball links in the head to Thunder Tiger's from the 700X. The are hard to snap on; but once on move very smooth. Best of all, they do not pop off when the wind blows. (2) I replaced the power arms with the 6HVU composite 'all in one" arms and found there is no more porpoising at high speed passes. For fun I put IU3 to 2250 for a flight and it is too much for me to handle. the 7HV was like a mosquito on crack. IMO, the best performance is at 2050....5:35 min flights landing with 22-24% aggressive sport/mild 3D flying as fast through maneuvers as I can make it go (that's my thing, what can I say), not a smack guy. |

yes, a very scary mosquito. not one you want to get bit by. i have the scorpion 4530 in mine and occasionally run it at 2250 with 14 pitch and 710 sab blacklines. very scary!

I would think that would make for an angry tail! Serious power + big 710 blades + 14 pitch =
We are soo spoiled with big electric heli power. Try switching over to a 700 nitro after you land the 7HV with one of these motors! You must check the manly stick banging of the collective at the door! Takes just a bit more finesse.

For me the blue dampers work very well @ 1900rpm.

115's on the tail. Hard to beileve, but even at 14 pitch and 710's, the tail is still rock solid no matter how stupid I get with the collective. That's why I mentioned in the other guys thread that he shouldn't have any problems at all with blowout unless there's an issue with the setup. Its not very often that I run it this way. Usually I have the cyclones on there at around 2050 headspeed. Still 14 pitch though.
Rob, I'm not sure I would have the skill to fly a nitro without bogging it horribly and probably lots of blowing out the tail. I just started flying less than 2 years ago and have only ever flown overpowered electrics. |

Don't sell yourself short! It's not all that different from reducing the headspeed on the electric by running less cells. It's a blast!! It makes for a different impression when you pitch it around in front of yourself within 30 ft or so. It's a mad monster! And it's not like they are anemic, by any stretch of the imagination. Just, when they aren't quite on tune, it's obvious. I tend to ease up on how hard I hit it, and let the machine flow through the moves. Still, they cover alot of space.

It does sound like a blast. I did nitro cars long before helis and I really miss the sound smell and smoke. I need to get a nitro at some point in my life. I'm watching the classifieds all the time. Really wanted a 3d plus, but parts are a problem. I have flown my old 6hv on 6s quite a bit and it was really fun. Not that it can't still hurt you, but I was bringing it in a lot closer to me down on the deck. Lots of things I would never do that close with the monster 7hv.
