Default My Version of Dbennettya's Main Gear and Rotorhead Saver mod

Some time ago, Dbennettya started this concept:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1248218

But I need a shear pin right now at no cost so I decided to make my own. Only useful if you're using a HP08 motor.

Credit still goes to Dbennettya for this concept!

I take no responsibility for any damage/injury caused by this mod. The DIY nature means this is not professional work, proceed at your own risk!

What is 185 gsm paper? Sorry.

Also, dont you guys think it would be as good or better? to replace the rotor head shear pin instead?

Thanks,

Bill

185 gsm=

185 grams per square meter.
gsm is the standard for measuring paper and card etc

any paper retailer/craft shop will be able to help you out with it.

cheers

GSM is grams per square meter. That's how paper thickness is measured at my place.

No, it's not better to replace the rotor head pin although it seems easier to replace. I thought of the same thing as you when I first saw Dbennettya's mod.

You see when the pin shears on the rotor head when you crash or something stops the main blades, the main shaft, will spin within the rotorhead at high speed for some time until stops. Same thing will happen on the main gear if the pin in it shears...

What's the difference? The shaft spinning either within the main gear or the rotorhead causes wear and could loosen the fit to the main shaft by either components and could damage it in frequent shear pin replacement. The choice was main gear because if it wears in time, it's a cheaper part to replace and a less critical part to compromise.

Just remove the 'cross' ribbing on the landing skid directly over the main gear and shear pin will be a breeze to replace.

Interesting on the philosphy.

Here in the US we buy paper by the pound. ie 24lb stock. I think i need a conversion chart.

Thanks,

Bill

Default Tail pitch setup 101

This is one way to reduce 4G6 motor bogging and dramatically improve tail hold in 3D. But the reduced tail pitch travel means you will need a faster tail servo like CB100 servo. Which should actually be the norm, tail servos should be fast anyway, unlike the stock tail servo 4G6 uses.

I have not done the tail saver mod yet enuro12 but now that I have an extra set of gears from Clubheli I plan on doing it. All they are doing is making the hole in the gear a little more round so if the tail hits something the shaft that sits in the gear will slip before the gears get stripped. It is to bad Walera doesn't make the shaft round and just use a friction grip instead of keying the shaft to the gear.
