Default Alternative Transmitters

Guys, can't help but notice that a lot of guys are posting threads [and on the other forum] concerning difficulties setting up the DX6i and the Belt, yet hardly a note about the Futaba 6EX. Doe this lead to the conclusion that the Futaba is intuitive and easier to setup, or that the Spektrum is difficult, or that not many chaps go for the Futaba?

Am intruiged as am in the market gor TX upgrade.
And I cannot find the finless bob DX6i video either, yrt it must be somewhere within these forums.

Cheers
Mike

Yes, I guess so, but what do you think of the DX61, Wolfie? Why does it seem that so many have problems with the setup?

Dont know, i know for sure Fatuba has good menu structure.

Lets compare it to navigating a Nokia Phone Settings compared to a Samsung's Phone settings.

One has a idiot proof structure and one doesnt...

Menu is fine on the Dx6i not that different to the futaba on Finless vid I think the problems are just because a lot of people have bought DX6i recently and it's their first computer TX

I found it really easy after watching the vid. Thanks Bob

The menu's arn't that different they use the same logic, the DX6i is dead cheap and easy to set up but everyone who's had one rates the Futaba as well

Mike: it's not for the DX6i its for Futaba! but the menus work on exactly the same principal I used it when setting up my DX6i with no probs, Every ones got DX6i's because theyre the cheapest. Mine is great does every thing I could want it to but I think the 6EX has a better quality transmitter case. As far as I can tell the quality of the transmitter build is better again on the DX7 but the basic electronics are similar. I dont know the exact differences though

Mike,

As far as I am aware the DX6i and DX7 menus are almost identical, that being the case the DX7 setup video here may also be worth checking....

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=28681

I used this and the CCPM setup vids to setup my DX7 which is my 1st computer tx and it made everything clear and gave me a good understanding of what different functions did.

Thanks Gerd,
I am just so undecided as to which way to go. Should I go for long term and get a 7 channel, or opt for the cheaper 6ch? And then should it be for the seemingly straight-forward Futaba, or maybe a little tricky Spektrum? What would long-term be on a Tx these days, 5 to 7 years?

I dunno.................

Mike

..and my birthday is getting closer too. The pressure is on, LOL!!!!!!!!!

Mike,

I looked at both Futaba and Spektrum, programming is almost the same but the Spektrum (well DX7) has a better screen (so easier programming) than the futaba.

I would recommend you do what I did, go along to your local LHS and ask to have a look at both brands and spend some time just playing with them and the programming.

With regards to the 6 or 7 channel, are you gonna need the extra? I decided yes as I would like to move up to a bigger nitro heli at some point and will probably need the extra channel for governor. Even if not then I can always use it for lights or retracts if I go down the scale route, my main thoughts were I would rather spend more now (I got my DX7/AR6100 for £162 from http://www.inwoodmodels.com/system/index.html) than spend £100 on a DX6 then in a year have to buy a 7 channel for another £150+.

Once I had both DX7 and 7C in my hands and looked at programming and general feel I found the Spektrum just felt right.

Ian, so what does that mean? I am an ace or something? LOLOLOL!!!! I know how to work my jet, not how the jet works!!!! Ok the FMC systems are programmed by no-one who has any idea of how to fly an aeroplane, or what in fact we want. Its foibles and quirks are learnt through experience, and I have been on Boeing FMC aircraft for 20 years!!!!!!!!!!

BTAIM!!! I still can't decide on 6 or 7 yet!!!!!

Cheers,

Mike

Just go with your budget but even the DX6i is great. If I can master it with my dope fried brain youll have no probs. I'm sure you are ACE though

Not sure I want to go on holiday this year after reading that ( I know how to fly it not how it flies)

LOL. These modern jets are just so much computer machines. We used to have to know all the systems inside out, but now, its really a basic knowledge of them, how to operate them and deal with the emergency/failures. People cause the most probs these days. Mind you, can go from fat, dumb and happy in the cruise to something real nasty in just a few seconds, the work-load ratcheting up for a 2man crew.

..........I digress...........

Will consider my future requirements, but inside I cant help feeling that a 7ch is the way to go - long term though. Will sleep on it!! Thanks for your continued advice guys.

Mike

PS even after having not touching one for 20 years, I still remember huge amounts about the VC10 and its technical systems!!!! Er, why? Dunno!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
