I would only shim it if the grips actually have side-play when you pull on each of them. If they have up/down rocking play this is caused by the main grip radial bearings fitting a little too loose in the grips imho. In this case I think you are better to remove the radial bearings (pretty easy to do if they are loose btw) and apply a little green loctite or even med CA (this is what I used), let it set properly and then reassemble.

I did this and it took all the x50e grip play away for me, without adding any shims.

Cheers,
TomC

The grips have side play, I pull on one side and the other side slides towards the hub, the side play is not a lot but it is there.

I'll try to make one soon. Still struggling with iKon gov settings. I get both high freq and low freq oscillations on the motor during heavy loading lol.

Here's one of Nick Maxwell w/4225-520 and 16t pinion. Probably would do ~ the same with a 4225-550 and 15t pinon. Looks way too ballistic for me, lol!

Thx Tom, but not interested too much in seeing a sponsored pilot flying to tell you the truth ... I'm interested in guys like you and me who are not doing this for a living ;-) in a sense that we are not on the same league .... skills and material at disposition.
Snap that will be cool ... sorry to hear you have trouble with heavy loading vibes ...

That's a 4525 not a 4225. BIG difference. Like 5kW peak.

The 4225 is a super light a powerful 600 class motor. The 4525 LE ultimate is the state of the art 700 motor.

Snap I've read a while ago about a guy on the other forum having some vibes when he was reversing pitch during large rainbows ... it was due to the little play in the main shaft ... Maybe a "raod" to explore for your pb ?!...
If it's only the IKON then no pb you'll finds the right gains ...
Good luck on finding the solution ...

Thanks for catching this snap. I guess that the main adv of the smaller 4225 is it does not need +100c batteries, lol!

Cheers,

It's not a vibration. I'm using the iKon gov and it acts like the gain is too high. But dropping it doesn't seem to help. I switched to 8khz and I think it got better.

At 2200 RPM it doesn't bog at 13.5 pitch and pulls very hard. It's a really expensive motor though. Overkill. I'm really just as happy running a Quantum 4135. It's just 60g heavier.

Here's a video. Nothing special, but I tried to stick bang a lot so you could get a sense of the power system.

Nice flight on the snap and a beautiful place to fly. I'm slowly gathering electronics for a Titan X50e myself.

Thanks. It's a good machine, enjoy it. If they spiced up the canopy design it would probably have a profound effect on US sales.

I'll also say that it autos very well. In Vegas I found myself doing some pretty stupid autos with it. Lots of hang time and a very free drive system.

I kind of like the air induction ports the canopy has. I'm not big on that stock green color though, I wish you could at least get the blue canopy with the e model when you buy it new.

I still have to get the kit I'm just gathering electronics right now. I thought eventually Id find a used one for sale but there is not one to be found at the moment.

I think I got the only used one I've ever seen! ;-)
