I finished up the engine swap. Just need to set the throttle arm and I'm good to go.

I tried some new exhaust sealant recommended by Tim Jones. I used the orange RTV silicone before and found it would blow out over time. I'm hoping this stuff is better.

Got two tanks in today on my nx4 gasser I won at the IRCHA Great a Gaui Build Off... This thing is amazing!

In total, think I got between 38-40 mins of flight time while tuning my thro curves and needles.. This little gasser flies FOREVER on 9 oz of fuel ! Just need to get a proper gov sensor.. The one I had in my spare tool box isn't picking up the magnets in the fan...

Still need to tweak/tune the sk540 to work out the bobbles in tic tocs n punchouts... But I think that could also be a result of not having any expo set yet, and running the black head dampeners instead of the red... Plan to switch those out before I fly tomorrow...

The gasser is plenty strong, and the flight times are incredible! For break in, it would idle a tank of fuel in over 2.25 hours... And hover flights lasted over 21 mins with fuel to spare... Don't think I NEED a 2 oz header tank... But hey... Wouldn't 25 mins + just be outrageous per refuel!! Once I get her dialed in a lil bit better I'll have to snap a vid and show off my amazingly mediocre skills... Lol

S.Millar, it is nice to have a spare engine ready to go. I noticed that you do not have magnets installed on your cooling fan, do you run with out a governor?

I am running a Spectrum RPM sensor to the Vbar Silverline Gov. Works great and is a cleaner install IMO.

Part number is SPM 9560

S.Millar, I have the same sensor that I would like to use but the backing plate on the engine is not flat like yours, it has x shape casting so the gov sensor will not fit. Did you have to buy another backing plate to make it work? Thank you.

I don't think OS makes a smooth backplate. I copied that pic form the Spectrum site.

You can use a Dremel to grind the bottom fins off the back plate.

I'm a Machinist by trade so I just took mine to work and milled the fins out on a manual milling machine. The Dremel is just as effective it just takes longer. Make sure you start with a course bit (link below), then switch to a sanding drum to smooth it out: http://www.dremel.com/en-ca/Accessor....aspx?pid=9901

I got three quick flights in yesterday with the swapped motor. Everything is back to normal. Whoohoo!!

So far the sealer Tim Jones recommended for the pipe is holding really well. I also switch from RotorRage 30% to CoolPower 30%. Its too early to tell a difference.

TX. one more thing.. the sensor for it to work you just did the mod to the base of the motor and install it, you don't need to put magnets or something else to the motor.... and then you plug the conector to the FBL unit, correct.. what model is your gov sensor...

All you need to do is mod the engine backplate. The sensor will detect the metal in the pin that drives the crankshaft.
Just install the sensor and plug it into you FBL control (if it has a gov feature).

I am using this one: Spectrum RPM Sensor SPM 9560

They are available with different connectors installed depending on what your FBL system requires. Make sure you get the right one. I think Ikon takes one with a spectrum sat connector. Vbar uses a regular servo connector.
