Heligriff, the term cut and shut is a slang term that was used in the car trade where 2 cars would be cut in half and welded together lol.

Just means cutting the boom in half and joining it together with the required length extension.
When I do mine I then sleeve the boom with carbon tube so the joint can not be seen

How do you join the two halves of the boom together?

Cut the boom where it is going to be the easiest when done to load the torque tube in, remember, you have to get the tube and bearings down it, once cut find a nice snug fitting tube that fits INSIDE the boom.
If you want to extend the boom by 4 inches you need at least 8 inches of tube to stretch, 2 inces each side of the cut and 4 inch stretch, then MY WAY is to get a nice carbon tube that fits over the boom and sleeve it with that so no joint is visible, easy lol.
You won't see any joins on my stretches, they look stock except for the length of booms and blades.
Stretched my raptor E720 into an 800 heli the same way, just takes thought and some care in doing it, very rewarding to fly though.

Going to make my own larger canopy mould and make a few canopies for a 1000 size bird next using a rewound Pyro 800 for power.

Matt Botos and Nick Maxwell with wolf 1000E (4 min 44 sec)

here y go. I filmed nick and matt bang it. difference from ava1000 and wolf 1000 is wolf have bellcranked servo links to swash. And wolf have ds610 and ava1000 have ds615.

I have the ava1000, and thats a Direct to swash frame.

Good to know 610 and 615 are strong enough... little surprising.

I really like this low RPM.

Thank you.

Thank you for that clarification! I assume you would do the same for the torque tube?

use the boom clamp for brace over the joint, for two reasons, dont see the ext and you clamp the booms to the inner joint so the booms dont slip. use two small screws as well to secure booms on joint.

Would be suprised.of the ds610 on that bird have between 400-500 flights of various pilots and flight styles.

Theese blades dont like hs over 1000 rpm and y dont need more Pitch than 8degrees.
Y do tic tocs in +/- 2 degree range

The way I do mine gives a large length of tube INSIDE the 800 boom, at least 5 inches each side ,bonded with Hysol, makes an extremely strong joint, no need to hide it under the boom brace as I sleeve the exterior of the boom from the frame end to the boom brace in carbon tube, VERY strong and looks original, ne screws required.
Been making extended booms and torque drives for ages, never had an issue whatsoever lol.
Each to their own method as long as it's safe and strong.
