Question Battery power supply issue (LifeYPO 6s1p 19.2V 40Ah)

Hey guys,

so I've built myself this neat battery power supply of 6 LifeYPO 40Ah cells
(http://www.ev-power.eu/Winston-40Ah-...3-2V-40Ah.html)
for field charging. 6 cells have 19.2 volts in a 6s1p configuration and way about
10kg which is a good power to weight ratio for my charging needs (12s 3000mAh).

Theoretically I can get 7 charges out of the battery with a maximum output of
38.9A according to the powerlab 8 calculator.

I say theoretically because I haven't succeeded in getting more than 1 charge out
of the fully charged battery. This is when the voltage drops under 20V and my
powerlab 8 quits with a low voltage error.

It took me a while to figure out that the charger has a fixed battery power source
configuration for a car battery? and can only be changed through the software. My
charger didn't come with a usb adapter, so I ordered one and also downloaded the CSS
and checked out the "Supply" tab. Under "Battery Power Source" there is a dropdown box
which gives me a choice of 7 presets.

I might be wrong but I see no presets there which fits my configuration. My expectation
was something like choose battery type (a123), configure nominal voltage (19.2), low
voltage (18V), max amps out (60A) and dod (100%).

I'm stuck right now and need some help. Please, is there any chance to add a custom
configuration for a battery power source which matches my battery ?

Michael

Emailed with customer support, they suggest to use the "DC Power Supply" configuration. Works but has some usability drawbacks and I can't use regenerativ discharge feature. Will update this thread if I get another reply.

I think I'd try one of the A123 presets and tune the low voltage out. They are configured for 4s and 8s. So it may not work quite right with 6s.

Hi Greg,

haven't tried that yet since I'm still waiting on the adapter cable. But as you stated it is for 4s or 8s configurations; the issue with 6s is, that it is more likely to be recognized by the charger as a drained 8s battery than a fully charged 4s ;(

I emailed with the support again and asked if it's possible to extend the list of presets by a 6s configuration. They forwarded the request to a design engineer.

Another option could be to remove one cell to get a 5s configuration which is 16V. I think I'll give that a try.

Will keep you posted!
