Exclamation Turnigy Trust 55A will Not Fit in a 450!

The Turnigy Trust 55A ESC (link here) will NOT FIT under the battery mount of a 450 (Pro V2 specifically)...

This thing is huge and between the 2 huge capacitors that stick out of the end and the small round protrusion that keeps it from sitting flat on one side, this has been a huge pain in the ass. If the 2 capacitors were not there, then it would fit perfectly. Even trimming some of the plastic did not help...

I know I could mount it on the outside of the heli without a problem, but that is something that I am not willing to do... So where are others mounting this behemoth?

So now off to order another ESC....

So can anyone recommend a 40-60Amp ESC that has a SBEC built in for under $50?

Length is the problem, not width... "That is what she said" lol

How good are you with soldering? You could just put the caps on a short wire. And why is that HUGE heatsink covered with heatshrink? It wont do much for cooling this way...Stupid design IMO.

Yes, the Turnigy Plush is a nice line but the soft-start totally sucks!!

I have an 80A one that does exactly the same - I even used an idle-up setting to switch it from stopped into a low speed idle setting to avoid that 'awkward spot' on startup!

As it's on a scale helicopter it actually makes it look more realistic though

Won't the heat sink fall off if you remove the shrink plastic?

Yeah, I thought about extending the capacitor's wires and bending them 90 degrees... I would have to have some extra caps on hand though, because I know I would end up messing them up... It still may be an option though

What might be cheaper and I don't know for sure if this will work for you, but how about getting either the KDE aluminum nose set here: http://www.kdedirect.com/TREX450PBMU.html

Or if you can about a week longer, make up the same with Tarot parts from AC-RC with here:

http://www.ac-rc.com/product_info.ph...geoi7hhiivc2k1

& here:

http://www.ac-rc.com/product_info.ph...geoi7hhiivc2k1

With one of these sets that should allow you more room in the nose so it should fit, then too the metal is a little more protection and stiffer anyway.

Most often a lot of people like these too as they can route the wires a lot easier as well.

Btw if you have never ordered stuff from AC-RC, they are great and even with their normal cheap shipping, they have always gotten stuff to me in CT in like a week.

Thanks for the info & links. I needed to order a couple of things from ooModel anyway and they carry Tarot stuff so looks like I will just add those couple of things to my order.

I am in no hurry to get this thing in the air, because I still need some practice on the sim and mCP X first....

Thanks again for posting that stuff up, hopefully the battery mount will create the extra room I need and if not, then at least I have some more bling

Well I am not trying to revive this thread, but I did want to add a picture of the ESC installed and say that the soft start on this ESC is completely useless. I mean if that is what they call "Soft Start" or "Low Acceleration" then I would hate to see what normal or high would be like...

If I would have known about the fitment issue and the fact that it pretty much does not have a soft start, then I would have definitely went with another ESC.... sigh...

You can always attach it to the side of the heli. Not as pretty, but it works.

I installed an ICE 50 in my 450/3GX under the battery tray, my solution to make it fit was to modify the battery tray. I cut the front section out of the battery tray between the flat upper and the lower canopy retainer so that it is similar to the KDE battery mount and canopy holder.
This allowed me quite a bit more room. Just be aware of how far out the ESC sticks out of the front of the heli.
Just an idea

So everyone after post #14 apparently did not read anything I wrote or look at my pictures...lol

I had no problem with mounting the ESC inside the frame, after I got the metal Tarot battery tray and lower canopy mount... (as you can tell from the 2 pictures I posted)

Anyway, still pissed about the crappy slow start, but I will probably crash and burn this thing before too long anyway... that just gives me room to upgrade I guess.

I have this same ESC and it's mounted on the side of my 450. Motor wires towards the nose. Comes down cool to the touch after every flight. I have thought about modding the original battery tray but it really doesn't bother me on the side of the heli. It's a beater heli and gets crashed at least once a week. It's easier to access the motor wires this way too.
