Default Soldering Technique

Can someone explain in detail the best method (step by step) to solder the brushless signal wire to the tiny resistor on the 3in1? I've watched some videos but don't know how to apply it to something so tiny without burning it.

I just tin the yellow wire, place it on the resistor then just touch for a second with the soldering iron, then hold the wire in place until everything is in place. Never had a joint fail.

I did the same thing. Also use a very bright light (and magnifine glass) to help see the tiny resistor.

I think it's around 700. At least that's what my 40 watt iron claims to put out.

Using a pair of tweezers to hold the wire (or any of these small parts) gives you fine control over placement on these tiny structures. I highly recommend getting a set of needle and curved tweezers to work on this bird.

Thank guys! Great tips!

I just ordered one of these: http://www.amazon.com/X-TRONIC-MODEL...350269&sr=8-11
after suggestions from another thread.

I have the Walkera 10A ESC and my Spin 16.3k should be here soon. Looking forward to having the brushless ESC directly on the 3in1.
This is to setup my first Non PNP brushless kits. I just want to be super careful with my v1 board! I'm not the best at soldering. (lack of experience)

Thanks for the info

What type of glue are you guys using for strain relief?

I've switched over to soldering paste instead of traditional solder wire. It's made soldering sooooo much easier on this tiny thing.

Scotch tape to hold the wire. That is great idea. I am going to try that.
I have been using those helping hands but not very effective on wires.

Just some thing to consider. You can also get this SMC rework station for
a little bit more:

Cheapest one is $79 with all good reviews. (The only minor complain is due
to the dude did not read the Manuel).
http://www.amazon.com/REWORK-SOLDERI.../dp/B004ZB9D4O

It come with digital control iron as well. SMC rework station can blow
hot air, it is a lot more useful on those SMC component than iron.
I just get the X-TRONIC rework station myself. Now the Weller WESD51
seems a bit redundant now.

I've been eyeballing the X-TRONIC station myself. Still trying to justify the purchase though, I don't do alot of smd work but I think it sure would come in handy for these little boards.

I agree with you. If you are getting a $70 solder station, you might just
as well get the smc rework stations for a about $12 more.

Man that thing is sweet!

Would love a combo Iron and Hot air gun. Unfortunately I already own a good iron, so it would be redundant.

Maybe I need to hint a future B-day present to the wife...Along with the 300X .
