Nice video. Favorite quote: "It's just ridiculous..."

At some point, we'd love to understand specifically what's special about the VBar.

Have a fun build. Bust out your pair of 6mm hex drivers...

.

It's just a different firmware, which is adapted for the size of the heli.
You could fly with the regular firmware too but that would require better servos while with the "optimized" firmware its going to allow lesser servos if you put it that way.

Just like a heli with crap geometry will fly ok if you have superservos on it.

I'm soooooo jealous. Buying the XTreme would mean "needing to buy an SUV" to tote that Heli to the field. Won't fit in my car.

Can you share with us what improvements were made to the production version in comparison to what I've seen on display from Dave and Kyle Dahl?

From what I understand of changes they are:

Mikado plastic swash plate driver links (not Align ones as in early photos)
Mikado plastic tail blade grips (not metal ones as seen in early photos)
Shorter main shaft
Shorter nose on main frame
variations to cutouts in frames

Not sure I understand why the reasoning for plastic tail blade grips. I realize "it works" but with all the CF and huge metal main blade grips, you'd think they would be metal for the tail as well

Jays200 has most of them.

Add to that the whole tail pitch control system, starting from the ball link at the end of the tail control rod, to the ball on the Mikado molded tail blade grips, and all the parts in-between, is new Mikado designed moldings and parts, which includes a larger control link ball between the control bell crank and the pitch slider, for added durability and wear resistance. The prototype parts were Align 700 stuff, which was functional, but the geometry wasn't perfect. But it got the job done until the new molds and parts were ready.

Speaking of prototypes and Align parts, remember all the "craziness" that went on when the first prototypes of the XXtreme showed with some Align parts installed. You would have though the world had ended.

But anyone that's had any experience with prototyping knows parts get borrowed all the time from other brands when developing new stuff. We had to laugh at some of the ridiculous comments about how the sky was falling because someone spotted an Align part on a Mikado machine. It made for good forum reading, as we knew they were all just temporary.

But for all those concerned at the time, now that you can buy an XXtreme, I promise you, there are no Align parts on it (-:
