All prices taken from Flying-Hobby.com

Trex800 Pro $1895 USD

I've priced the gobbler as 12s with the same electrics as the Trex.

Goblin770 kit. $1195
Edge 160hv $270
490kv Dominator motor $275
Set of Hv Align Servos. $615
3gx. $100

Total = $2455
I'd say $560 is a rather large difference, wouldn't you?

Now, I agree if you were to take full retail price of the trex, there's not much in it but I've yet to see any one selling it @ $2360 (most are $1895) or a Gobbler770 Combo anywhere near $1895.

Happy to be told otherwise though, as a Gobbler770 is at the top of my 'next to buy' list

Goblin 770 $1195.
Edge 160HV $269.
800MX 520kv $246.
RJX HV Cyclic servos $239.
RJX Tail Servo $92.
3GX (just for giggles) $95.

Total $2136. That's a bit closer to the $1895 sale price of the Trex wouldn't you say?
And I'd also suggest you'd be getting a better heli as well. But that's only my opinion.

All prices from the same website you quoted.

Either way, when you can buy an airframe and fill it with your choice of electrics you have more room to move, where as the Align stuff comes as a complete kit.

My 770 was more due to using Kosmik 200 and VBar, but that is personal choice, and I bet mine flies better than a stock 800, but that's only my opinion.

When comparing models I don't think you should use the same hardware because in reality who will be using more expensive equipment if not needed?

Yep, I totally agree with all you've said.

However, I only gave the 'like for like' electric quotations to keep an equal playing field when comparing both heli build costs. Of course you can certainly spend less on electrics and decidedly more for that matter too, as you have done with your 770 and then costs can swing wildly either way.

It's certainly nice to have the choice but for my skill level and budget, the Align 800 Pro combo was a good match.

I have a 770, an Xxtreme but not an 800.

My Xxtreme has not been flown yet due to all sorts of dramas that are either motor or speedy related.
My 770 took me a few weeks to build and has over 70 flights on it.
I have a 700 V2 that I have many flights on also.

So far, my favourite and most reliable (touch wood) has been the 770.

If my Xxtreme didn't have the issues it currently does then my opinion may be swayed.

Everything from Align is good value in my opinion because all you need is sats or receiver and batteries and you're flying.

Yet some like to fit out their own choice of electrics, which is fair enough as well.

As far as finding a happy medium in between.........well that all depends on how fat your wallet is.

I fly like crap due to not having the time to commit to practice, but have been fortunate enough to be able to afford the larger helis with some good gear.

I now need to be careful as my budget is considerably less than before.

But I still enjoy it and get a raised heart rate every time I fly. I love it.

Hear, hear to that!

I'm quite fortunate also, with regard to budget or not really having one (within reason, of course) and it certainly exceeds my ability in this hobby.

I, however, have shown some restraint by not buying the 'biggest and baddest or fastest most expensive stuff right out of the gate and shown respect for the knowledge and skill needed to fly/maintain these 'things' safely.

I too, don't have the stick time one needs to really progress but I am now at a stage where I'm feeling far more comfortable with setup, flying etc to maybe warrant a scratch build with all the 'bling' electrics for my next heli.

Its good that it can fly at that lower hs but I would like to see and hear more off others flying like that too. Im getting tempted but only want the kit, not the combo like I just mentioned on another thread. I'd happily use the servo's but dont want the other stuff nor the grief of selling it all off.

Give it a couple of months and I'm sure there will be vendors offering Kit only or at least Ebay, as with most other Align kits.

Ok, i have seen this before and someone needs to explain to me why you don't like DFC.
People just post things like "it was automatically off my list" and just don't explain why!

- I am new to this, so if you have a minute to spare please explain.

With that said i just took my 700 DFC Pro to the field yesterday morning and flew it at 1080 RPM (yes, it flew like that! i was surprised too). And then 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, 2000 and 2100 rpm. The helicopter was stable, no nodding, no wobble, no shaking, it just worked !

I have seen other brand helicopters that work better either at higher RPM or with non-DFC heads, but Aligns again .. just seem to work .. i have tested this myself, it's not something i heard or read about.

I just saw your last reply here .. my DFC is a 700 Pro, but a friend at the field just finished building his 800 DFC Pro and tomorrow morning we are test flying it.

We will do very LOW rpm on it tomorrow and report back here.

Default TRex 800 -- Low RPM Testing

As promised, here is a short video of the low RPM testing we did at the park the on Saturday.
VERY LOW RPM Testing (No 3D) Align T-Rex 800 DFC (4 min 1 sec)

The Numbers (from the ESC logs):
35% Throttle Setting:
1000 RPM, 3 Amps in Hover, Motor Power Output 21.2%
40% Throttle Setting:
1100 RPM, 6.5 Amps in Hover, Motor Power Output 27.1%
50% Throttle Setting:
1400 RPM, 12.5 Amps in Hover, Motor Power Output 38.4%
70% Throttle Setting:
1600 RPM, 16.5 Amps in Hover, Motor Power Output 52.5%

No wobble, no nodding, no shaking .. all good !

And .. just flying around (low RPM):
TRex 800 DFC Pro - Low RPM Flying (3 min 6 sec)

We also did some mild 3D but i didn't film it .. next time !

might want to take in consideration Goblin 770 stretched to 800

Low RPM 700
mid RPM 1100-1400
High RPM 1800

flight time about 8,5 min

Thanks for the links to these videos .. the large Goblins seem to be flying nicely !

I don't think the stretch-kit and 800 blades are needed though.. but i did put a Goblin 770 next to a TRex 700 Pro and the body sizes are very close. (Goblin is a bit taller because it was HPS and the DFC head is lower and of course the blades are 70 mm longer too, but the Rex canopy is more pointy).

Thumbs up Ended up getting a TRex 800 DFC Pro

So i ended up buying a TRex 800 ..

I have the 700 Pro HV and it's flying -great-, my friend has the 800 Pro and from what i have seen (and flown it) it is solid at all kinds of RPM and a very reliable/solid setup.

Today we tried flying it with just one 6s pack .. again the heli flew great.

Here is a video of that first test @ 6s and low RPM:
New Align TRex 800 Pro - REALLY Low RPM Testing (One 6s Battery) (7 min 27 sec)

Awesome flying 3DAP , the 800 Pro sounds real nice at that head speed. Do you know what head speed you were using in that vid?

I fly my 800 Pro at 1090rpm using a 12s setup, she has been re-geared and have fitted a low KV motor, love this bird!!

Have not pulled the logs yet John but i will let you know ..

This 800 has flown at 1100 RPM a couple of times with 12s (and ready to flip the Idle-Up switch need be) but it worked fine -- and that is why 6s was tested here.

I personally prefer a bit higher RPM than this !
